Definitely, you can use 'for' or 'to' to substitute dative. We just do it without prepositions in Serbian. I am giving a pencil to Maria. = Dajem olovku Mariji. I cook for the kids. = Kuvam deci.

Hi boko. Do you know when i have to use k, ka i prema is there a rule becuase in english it is towards?

They are synonyms, you can use them interchangeably. 'k' is rarely used, 'ka' and 'prema' are both common. Also, 'prema' has another meaning: According to this book, you shouldn't eat sugar. = Prema ovoj knjizi, ne treba da jedete šećer.

'Skuvaću ribu za tebe večeras, ili skuvaću ti ribu večeras?' # I think they are both good, they both have the same meaning. Where dativ really comes in is: I am helping you. = Pomažem ti (tebi). # There is no alternative to this. I am giving this to Borko. = Dajem ovo Borku. I am advising my coworkers to be patient. = Savetujem kolegama da budu strpljivi. To be honest I haven't planned it, but it is on my list now. 😃

But why "deci"? dete sg., deca pl. --- so the dativ form is irregular from "deca" pl. to deci dat. sg.?

Well, 'deci' is dativ plural. Dativ singular - detetu.

@@teacherboko l. 17 adjektives in dative je nesto jos tesak. Ne, mislim, bice lep da ima jos frases na engleskom zajedno za dativ i ucitelji mora da stavite na srbskom - da mi smo jos seguran u dativ (ovde kako ja mogu da pricam srbski ... )

You are right, that's correct as well, of course. I used that example and that particular construction because it was specific and easy to remember. There are two ways of saying it in English: I'm cooking kids dinner. = I'm cooking dinner for kids. (basically the same meaning but not identical - the first form is dative) I want to give you a present. (I want to give a present to you.) Sometimes the dative form is much more natural, the other form is a bit strange: Ana is helping kids study math. (it's weird saying "Anna is helping for kids or to kids") I'm helping Ana. (cannot say "I'm helping for Ana or to Ana") Does that please you? (cannot say "Does that please to you or for you?") etc.
