if it was the forward 3 bolts on the heat shield missing, my guess would be that it was removed in the past and someone could not get those 3 started with the manifold bolted on to the engine. It can be done (I did it) but its takes a lot of finessing and is very slow going. That's why I think the FSM (or maybe it was an engine building book I read) says to bolt it on BEFORE re attaching the manifold. You lose sight of the clamp bolts, but since they do not have to be removed, you theoretically should be able to snake in a socket on an swivel to tighten up those, even with the shield already in place.

I bet you're right. To be fair though, does the heat shield REALLY need SIX bolts to keep it on...? Rusted tight 2 bolts would probably do =) Joking aside, I've been spending a pretty petty on just replacement hardware. Especially because I keep buying hardware kits online, instead of trying to assemble my own set from a hardware store.

I went back and reviewed your video on the intake manifold removal, and noticed you are missing the side shield, that uses 3 bolts that mount it. Its purpose looks to be to provide shielding of the PCV hose (the one that was destroyed, prob from heat). Getting the right hardware can be a problem, I was lucky mine was pretty much untouched. here is a diagram of it, look at part #10.www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/engine-280z/manifold-egr/from-aug-76

Yeap, that does probably explain why the hose was completely roasted. I bought a bunch of heat wraps for the exhaust header/manifold, and I'm hoping that'll do the trick. I'll probably wrap the hose too. I appreciate the keen eye Dave, I'm learning a lot from you.

Was hoping to find a way to PM you but I can't. Anyway. I recently disassembled everything to put on my new MSA header. And all of the hoses need replacing. I know the fuel and coolant lines ate 5/16 and 30r7 line should be okay for both. But I cant find the PCV crankcase hose that goes under the intake manifold to the block because it has two separate sizes. Except the $30 one of zcardepot. Which is my whole budget for these hoses. Is there an all in one kit for this? Or at least a list with links to buy it all at once? Going back and forth to the parts store just to find out they don't have what I need is frustrating. Nobody has the vacuum lines for the brake booster.

There's silicone hose kits on Ebay, but I ended up just buying rolls of silicone hoses separately. I haven't been able to find many pcv hoses, you might just have to pony up the 30 bucks :(

what intake is? is the P71?
@danielgallegos3826 жыл бұрын
Hey do you know the size of the pcv hose that’s under the intake manifold ??
@RestorationForBeginners6 жыл бұрын
The PCV hose isn't a particular size, it's different ID on each end (larger at the vent tube, smaller at the PCV valve). Also given the two bends, I'd just suggest that you buy a PCV tube for the L28 instead. It'll be tricky to use a generic hose for it.

Restoration For Beginners okay and now I need one of those screw thingys that is attached to the heater housing cause mines are rusted and I can’t find them online idk what they are actually called
