Datsun had it all figured out, my 1971 240z had the exact same light with a power cord , so you could shine It wherever you want in the engine bay 👍 dam it, wish I never sold it 😭

I have an 86 Maxima that still talks. "Key is in the ignition" - "Parking brake is on" - "Lights are on" among a few others. These were some kool cars back in the 80's. Thanks for showing!

"left door is open... left door is open" Wishin' my '83 ZX talked to me that way. Guess it didn't have that option, or the cassette player either ...but, it does have high back seats, Silver paint scheme, and oddly enough the '83 Turbo rims( not a Turbo model). Anyhow... feeling the woes this week as having to let "the babe" go. Only room for one Sports Car in the garage... and an '84 Corvette with Collector plates is being a bit of a bully. Never the less.. "Datsun... We Are Driven!" oh... and the left door is open

The voice is a cassette as well. The little cassette player is in the rear armrest on the side. You can actually take the tape out and re-record the messages. So it has like a memory on the tape of where it needs to be. When you leave something that shouldn't be, it fast forwards to that part of the tape and plays whatever is there.

I owned an '82 Maxima and I'm willing to bet that your '83 ZX did have the voice box. There was an override switch that would shut her up, also if a previous owner couldn't stand it they could've disconnected the unit.

Sweet Datsun. Growing up we had a 1982 310GX hatchback in the 4 door model. I wish I'd kept the thing because it had the same gauge cluster as the ZX and was also an automatic. It was also an odd options package because it lacked power steering, AC and had no radio. But it had rear heated glass and extra fans under the hood to cool the engine. It got crazy good fuel economy too I miss that car as basic as it was.

My 280ZX 1983 had the auxiliary fan that would come on in the parking lot if it was too hot. You can see it in this video coming over the top of cylinder head in the middle. I am thinking it was probably designed for the turbo models at first but used in many cars. "Your car is still running people at the mall would say, I would reply it will stop when the battery dies."

Seems like forever ago when I owned one of these. Mine was the non turbo, 5 speed manual, two seater like yours. Mine had the same color interior but was silver. It didn't talk to me though....would of freaked me out the first time if it did,,,hahaha. I still remember the little check it would go through at start up and light up OK when done. Power antenna quit working as usual but all in all it was a fun, quick little car for its time. I would like to find another of this era with the 5 speed manual and turbo sometime...But I liked my 79 Trans Am better...Although the Datsun was probably faster,,,don't bash on me to hard fella's.. :)

i thought these drivetrains were engineered brilliantly simple. All that added talking and electronic crap (including electr window actuators) inevitably fail in "all" cars. The Z cars are fun. my fav is the Z32 300zx twin turbo. It had a long run and if you knew the cars well (the yearly added speed parts) you could assemble a 2 seater beast.

+ Cosmic Grooves, those wheels DO mean Turbo. Not on this car, but those wheels were on the 1981 280zxs, the FIRST year for the Turbo 280zx. Know your facts, before you run your mouth, Einstein.

No, those are NOT the turbo wheels Einstein. Turbos came with either the "snowflake" or "swastika" wheels. This car has the stock, non turbo wheels for 1981 - 1983.

I had a 1983 280 ZX Datsun by Nissan 2 plus 2 in blue and was a five speed, t-top car in perfect condition with 40K miles and second owner. Its the one car I wish I never let go off but I wanted a 86 300ZX with the V6 five speed and t-tops. It was never the same as the 280 and it will always go down as the one that got away.

Could be any # of things. More than likely it was just cold and steaming off condensation inside the tailpipe. If it was warm then needs a rebuild (burning oil).

Just a fucking gimmick to move the car off the lot. Didn't say anything useful, like warning you of things that would actually destroy your car... "oil level low, oil level critical, water temperture high, water temperature critical". In fact, none of the sensors really did that. The water temp display on the digital dash, as well as most of the diplays, don't even have markings on them with values. Its like that push button warning light in the dash.. will tell you idiot things like wiper fluid low. Who cares.

billyopotato Actually, my 280zx turbo that looks identical to this interior... has been nothing but an unreliable POS since I bought it. It's now been sitting in my back yard with a busted head gasket for over a year now and I switched to driving 1980's Honda motorcycles instead. Forget air conditioner, heater, clock, fuel gauge, temp gauge, cruise control, heated rear view mirror, talking lady working... all that gimmicky crap died years ago before I bought it and now is just dead weight on a pseudo sports car. The plastic in those vents is starting to crumble. I use to do a lot to restore it and keep it looming nice and running but at 22mpg I just can't afford it any more. My 1985 Honda Rebel gets 60mpg and is a lot cheaper to run and easier to maintain.

Headlamp water squirters. Cruise Control thats DOA. Keylock light that if not in the upright position, will drain your battery (ditto for all the other little door lights). Digital Clock thats DOA. Tape deck - dead - haha. Power Antenna. Rear windshield wiper and rear defroster. Come on! What the hell
