Hello fellow readers. I didn't read Julie Dash's Daughters of the Dust: A Novel but I watched the film version. I believe Ms. Dash's novel takes place several years after the characters cross over to the mainland. The film offers a snapshot of some characters migrating to the mainland. Texts that align with themes of internal migration, Black women's identity & social status, and Black folk culture are  Praisesong for the Widow by Paule Marshall  The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman by Ernest J. Gaines  In Love and Trouble: Stories of Black Women by Alice Walker  Night Wherever We Go by Tracey Rose Peyton  Jubilee by Margaret Walker Alexander  The Black Woman: An Anthology edited by Toni Cade Bambara  The Sea Birds are Still Alive by Toni Cade Bambara

We have similar reading taste because everything you share, I always enjoy, especially the ones written by Black authors. I try to keep my TBR diverse so I'm not always reading trauma, but I have to feel something when I read. I've wanted to watch this movie for years, I didn't know there was a book! I'm definitely picking this one up and the others you recommend. Thank you for sharing!

@@browngirlreading I’m finishing up Daughters of the Stone, which I absolutely loved. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Darkest Child. It was so good, I listened to the audio version as soon as I finished. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
