Fuel in the fuel water separator gets so low to the point that the truck shuts down and I have to keep adding fuel in the glass bowl. Any help would be great.
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32285 ай бұрын
If fuel gets so low truck shuts down, you’re definitely sucking in air. One of your seals on your fuel water separator may be to blame. I’d start there.

@@Jrock4e if the bowl level stays low than that would tell us the issue is from the bowl back to the tank. When I test the system I’d bypass the bowl completely and test starting system. If it starts fine I’d remove every connection and inspect carefully. If nothing is found than the stand pipe in the fuel tanks are to blame. Usually fine an issue with the fuel line either at davco or above trans.

Hey great video, my 2016 freightliner cascadia doesn't have a fuel water seperator on the side, so how would I drain the water. Thanks
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32282 жыл бұрын
Great question, In your fuel filter module there should be a hose on the bottom of it that you can spin to loosen. You would just have to pay attention to the consistency of it to close it as soon as fuel starts coming out.

When you were spraying the inside of the base to clean/rinse it, what were you spraying with? Looked like some kind of pressurized liquid?

Great question man. I use brake cleaner for the bowl. Everything really. The all purpose cleaner for everything truck related.

Whats going on if I see small air bubbles? I’ve checked the o-rings , they’re good. I don’t see any cracks in the housing. The truck runs fine but I do see small bubbles
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32282 жыл бұрын
Small bubbles there is a leak either at that davco bowl or fittings. Or lines to tank, tank pick up tubes. Usually just around the davco is the issue.

great video ,got a question for you ,right after i change mine 485 filter ,the fuel goes all the way to the top of the new filter .do you know whats the reason ?i double checked all the orings and the the seal goes inside of the filter ,couldnt find anything wrong with it

A guy on another video said that after the initial start, you should loosen the vent screw until the fuel level drops to just above the collar, then tighten it. Any thoughts? Is that necessary? Thanks
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32282 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out. That method is perfect fine, just not needed. The level will drop on its own as it recognizes there’s no restriction. But everyone has there own way of doing things and as long as it gets the job done it’s good to go.

Hey man, are you still working at the Phoenix Shop? Im currently having an issue where when I shut my truck off, after like 2-3 hours, the fuel system loses it's prime and the Davco is completely bone dry, so there is just air in the system and the truck wont start. I just took it to the Hutchins shop, I told them more than likely its one of the check valves or check balls in the Housing on the Engine or the Valve in the Davco, but the Shop manager said they were just going to change the fuel filter, because he thinks thats the problem. They changed the filter and parked it. I drove an hour to the terminal all loaded up and ready to hit the road, and go to start the truck, and same exact think. Bone dry fuel system, they didn't fix it. Have you run into this issue on any of our other trucks? I'm in a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, forgot to mention that. Also they replaced the oil pan because it was leaking. I popped the hood and confirmed it has been replaced, but the oil line that comes of the passenger side(I think you said it was a suction line?) is just hanging down beside the pan, they didn't transfer the fitting, it just has a solid plug in the pan. Does that need to be attached? Wish I was at the Phoenix shop, they actually do a good job and I haven't had any problems with them.
@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out man. I am not there anymore. I’m at the chandler location now. So anytime your ready. You definitely have air in the system and it shouldn’t be hard to find. Just a little time consuming. Just need to separate the engine from the chassis system and find where the issue is. Just a filter was a lil silly to do. You may be right about a check valve or just loose lines twords the tanks. As for the suction line to the pan. It may be because the oring on the fitting to the pan was leaking and they couldn’t find a replacement. Or just lazy. Either one. But it’s not to big of a deal. Just easier for the fleets to suck out the oil. Next time you go in for a service just have them put one back in since itlll be drained than. Hope your luck turns around.

what if fuel is not building up in water separator for u to know when to replace it?
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32282 жыл бұрын
Once restricted it will always fill up. It does take a while. Such as a few oil changes to notice the level getting higher. But to always be safe I would recommend the same interval as the other fuel filters on your truck.
