Can you put anti-seize on the splines before putting on the yoke and carrier bearing? I'm thinking about the next time you replace it it'll go smoother?
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32282 жыл бұрын
Great question. You can. And it would prob help. Just can’t use to much or way for dirt to get on and make for a rough disassembly.

Excellent work. Is the truck on blocks or somethin? Wonderin how u got so much room to slide under there like that. I need to inspect the under side of mine before i have a shop go under there and tell me whatever lol Thanks
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32283 жыл бұрын
If I was under the front end definitely I’d have it on blocks this guy is not that skinny anymore. But mid way we have sneaky access points so that’s helpful. I would say every 100k I’d have it checked out. One thing that can cause many issues and when it goes out it can be very $$$$ to clean up.

Whats the worst that could happen if I try to limp it to the shop 10 miles away rather than dropping the shaft in my yard? I dont have to run it at highway speed to get it there. It had failed to the point that the heat has melted the bushing and shaft is not in a straight line. I could probably lift the rear shaft with a strap so it's better lined up. I had noticed some vibration lately and had the front tires balanced just a few miles before this happened. That did not fix the vibration. Hopefully this bad bearing is what was causing it.
@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 Жыл бұрын
If it’s vibrating and shaking I wouldn’t drive it. If it’s just pushed out and not straight than driving will be fine. But when in doubt tow it out.

Hey next time instead of running the cutoff wheel just take a torch heat one little band across the retainer/race until its cherry red and then give it a nice smack with a chisel and hammer and usually they will fall right off with just one good smack. It's works better than deep freezers, liquid nitrogen and even better in most cases than a cut off wheel. Another good trick to install the new carriers and mainly to remove rusted u joints themselves is to get a u joint trunion driver bit for an air hammer its also known as a smoothing hammer bit but it works great popping rusty ass u joints out and you can install the new carrier bearing with it so long as you go slowly and don't open the hammer up all the way beating the ever living shit out of it lmao. It's just a flat rounded head on the bit so no sharp corners but still don't want to fuck the shit up when you are in the home stretch by getting too excited with the bumpy noise maker lmao
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32283 жыл бұрын
Hey man thanks for chiming in. You are absolutely right, a torch goes a long way abs probably would of made this easier. I try to use items that people have at there disposal so they don’t assume they need a torch to do the repair. But I’m sure that would of saved some time on coming off. Only issue is cool down period so no matter what ,it takes time. I always appreciate others input because every bit helps others whether new or old we could always learn something new.

Hell at the mine I work at the lube trucks aint ever brought to the shop until there is just the smell of burning rubber barreling out from under the trucks haha. When you spend all day driving on dirt roads that were graded by shitty blade operators you get used to vibrations🤣

Ok, I hear a thump under the cab when I get on and off the gas. I changed one bad U-joint, but it's still doing the same thing, what could be the problem now???
@bustedknucklebydieseldr32282 жыл бұрын
Great question and thanks for reaching out. Your issue can be so many things. Any bad unjoint,carrier bearing., cab torsion rod, any loose cab mounting hardware, suspension torque arms, loose catwalks, gremlins trying to get out. Would just hav to get hands on everything and see what’s loose. Or have someone shake the cab while you listen for the noise.
