I've only just discovered this guy while checking out music on Amazon. I'm a blues lover and I also really go for roadhouse. I think that what is most impressive about Dave Alvin, other than that he puts his heart in to what he does, is how his songs tell a story. I'll have to listen to some more of this guy. I like what I hear.

I'm 62, been a music addict for 50 of those years. Huge fan of Alvin, from the beginnings with his bro Phil as The Blasters. So nice to see him still in top form. BTW, this song is based on a true story...Johnny Ace was the real deal.

It's amazing, Dave Alvin's song covers the same ground as the book The Death Of Johnny Ace by Steve Bergsman. Both terrific tales of the late, great R&B singer Johnny Ace.

I lost track of D.A. way back when the Blasters folded. I heard "Dirty Nightgown" on the local NPR station and am soooooo happy to find Dave Alvin again. Too bad I missed 20-plus years of his music. Eric

Garry Spooner, the Blasters were the band in the movie Streets of Fire. Playing One Bad Stud. Dave Alvin was also the guitarist for X after the original guy left. Saw him in '84. But the stuff he does as himself or with the guilty ones, etc is by far his best iMovie.

Just posted a 78 of Johnny Ace ( even though the image is of 45)- look for Lloyd Price & Johnny Ace. He was a very gifted man, just stupid.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it already but the lyrics are inaccurate. The pistol was a .32 calibre. Not a .22 ;). Johnny Ace might have lived with a .22. lmao
