Love them. Saw them live in NYC as a young teen. They were terrific. Mike Smith was/is the REAL talent of the band. Has a great rock voice!

I was the 'ghost writer' for the DC5 and wrote both these songs, I also wrote 'Because', 'Anyway you want it', 'Thinking of you baby' and a few more songs. Dave Clark had the Band under contract and they were paid a weekly wage, also in the contract it was written that any Band member who wrote a song that was recorded by the Band would have to have Dave Clark as a 'Co-writer' so that he could claim 50% of the song's royalties.

"Because" is genuinely one of the most beautiful ballads of the 1960s.

Dave Clark deserves immense credit for propelling his band to the forefront leadership of the British Invasion of America! The Dave Clark Five and The Beatles were the 2 giant bands the led the British Invasion. The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermit's, The Who, The Animals, Searchers, and so forth, all trailed the Beatles & The DC5. Also, there's a certain Mr Ryan who had legally relinquished his writing credits via a deal with Dave Clark. Ryan made the deal with Mr Clark. However it seems in the last few years that Ryan has endlessly complained, whined and cried to anyone and everyone that he is not credited with songs he purportedly wrote but are credited to Dave Clark. Mr Clark has the legal right to claim writing credits to the songs. Fans of the many Dave Clark Five fan groups throughout the internet are quite sick and tired of hearing Mr Ryan's constant whining, b*tching and crying over any deal he made with Mr Clark.

The thing about the DC5 is that their hits were hits and well deserved. You have to be a fan to enjoy the rest of their material. Their schtick was a popping snare drum sound, crunchy bass sounds and a roaring lead vocal by Mike Smith. Bits and Pieces blew anything the Beatles did out of the water, sound wise during 1963 and probably 64. Not many drove as hard as the DC5 in 63 or 64, if any did at all, save the Kinks and You Really Got Me with a big guitar sound, but no one else was really drum oriented. So, was music this awful...if you're a fan no.
