In the sixties I actually saw the Dave Clark Five play live at the Basildon Locarno many times. They were the resident band. They also performed live at the Mecca Tottenham Royal for a long time with a great fan base. I can confirm that they were probably one of the best live bands I saw. Their performances with their hits and covers were spot on. Mike was undoubtedly one the best rock vocalists of the time . Dave Clark may have been the brain but MIke was the driving force. I can confirm that all the members of band including Dave were great on their instruments and their vocals/ harmonies were genuine. What happened in the states was another matter, all I know was that what I saw was brilliant. Because they played together live their performances were rehearsed and nailed for me nailed the myth that other people played their instruments. They did not need the help of others. I can only comment what I saw for myself.

Their last top 20 hit in America came in the spring of 1967 which was a cover version of the 1960 hit by Chris Kenner "You Got What It Takes" .

Bobby Graham on drums, Eric Ford on bass. Len, Mike and obviously Mike were accomplished musicians.

I can listen to and in many cases watch hours of The Beatles and The Stones performing live in the '60s, so it's been decades of frustration not being able to do the same with The DC5. No live concert albums, no reunion tours, and Dave Clark has replaced all their live performance audio with their studio recordings. Hard to find another successful '60s band where that is the case.

If dave Clark wasn't their fuckin their lives with beatles copying , they y'all must had Remembering legacy of their life , especially Mike Smith would be another legend

Not copying the Beatles intentionally, had their own different sound. When did they also have a sax?
@amangadpale92842 жыл бұрын
@@pambh65 just added few little things can't hide the fact they copied every little thing beatles did , even broke band after beatles done, also made hey jude copy, but they could become best Rock band if they let Mike do the stuffs than Dave Clark conducting the steps which were copy of beatles paths (red balloon had Lucy in the sky with diamond intro copied)

I've read that this song was supposed to be used in the "Romeo and Juliet" movie in 1968 but didn't make the final cut.

In an interview, Dave mentions that they did four versions, including a classical one.I wish Dave would dig in the vaults and let them out! I'd love to hear all of them.

Well other British bands were arising taking the reins with the Beatles leading the charge . Dave Clark 5 weren’t as prominent but they were still there with quality music .

@catmoondaddy11 жыл бұрын
Yes they were but again, this is the recorded version and a poor attempt at trying to look and sound live.

They performed ONCE live during a rehearsal of the Ed Sullivan Show but were so bad, they opted out to lip-sync. Look, don't post anything you know nothing about.
@jamesdunn97145 жыл бұрын
Actually you're incorrect. They performed for the queen and did very, very well.
@catmoondaddy11 жыл бұрын
All their Ed Sullivan appearances are lip-synched. When they did the rehearsal they sounded so bad that they decided to go with the recorded version. The only thing that's live is the screaming girls. If you can find one good live performance, let me know.

This sounds like an attempt at a psychedelic song. Not bad but not really their forte.

They were approached by Franco Zeffirelli to write a song for Romeo and Juliet and this was one of the four versions that was submitted.I think it was considered too upbeat for the movie.
@dagnabbit61874 жыл бұрын
They even did a good TV special with some good songs and made a good attempt at being hip but yes you can see that they were not going to be able to evolve & transcend like the Beatles , Kinks, and Stones did .
