"Over and Over" is a song written and recorded by Bobby Day. Day's version entered the Billboard Top 100 in 1958, the same week a version of the same song by Thurston Harris entered the chart. Day's version reached #41, while Harris' version peaked at #96.
The most successful version, sung by lead singer and keyboardist Mike Smith, was the only U.S. #1 hit for the Dave Clark Five, one of the early British Invasion bands of the mid-1960s. It followed the group's signature sound of thumping, 4/4 drum beats accompanied by a wailing saxophone. Despite its success in the USA and the popularity of the group on both sides of the Atlantic, the single only reached number 45 in the band's native United Kingdom.
The Dave Clark Five (also known as "The DC5") were an English pop rock group. Their single "Glad All Over" knocked the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the UK singles charts in January 1964: it eventually peaked at number 6 in the United States in April 1964.
They were the second group of the British Invasion on The Ed Sullivan Show, appearing in March for two weeks after the Beatles appeared three straight weeks in February 1964. For some time the Dave Clark Five were more popular in the US than in their native UK, but had a renaissance in the UK between 1967 and 1970. The group disbanded in late 1970. On 10 March 2008, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Thanks. That was really off putting. I remember Over and Over so well. Had the single. Didn't actually know it was the DC5 though. Remembered it was my fave, a no. 1 on WABC in NY.

I'm looking for the one with the dance girls doing the 1960s bouncy dance that I love. I saw it a few months ago on KZbin. I heard it just now by Bobby Day on the Sainsbury's advertisement, just before Star Trek TOS. I love it but I want to see the dance girls. Absolutely brilliant ♥️🥰🇯🇲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🕊️🔥✝️

One of the things that held the Dave Clark five back in concert is that there was no clear frontman. The band was led by and named after the drummer, but you couldn't tell whether he or the keyboard player were singing the lead part. With that situation, even when you're playing live, it looks like you're lip syncing.

Mike Smith was the lead singer on almost ALL of their songs unless they are all singing at the same time. If you hear a gravelly voice, it is Smith's. He was incredible.
