I live in Portland and have hiked that trail many times. In fact I have backpacked to High Bridge, that first bridge across Eagle creek where you filmed down at the creek. There used to be a very narrow side trail down to a tiny beach under the bridge. Big enough for one, maybe two small tents. That was a tremendous fire that kid started with his fireworks. It started up that creek and spread to a large portion of the Columbia Gorge. The same very hot and dry conditions that we have been experiencing this summer. I really enjoyed this video and the memories it brought back.

Congratulations on conquering your fears and enjoying Eagle Creek. It’s been on my list for a while. In 2017 I was camping near Watson Lake hiking the PCT. There was already a fire that had closed the upper part of the Eagle Creek Trail. I was able to watch it to the Southwest of the valley from my campsite on the NorthEast side. Both beautiful and worrisome. A helicopter was dipping water from Watson lake to fight the fire. The next day I made my way up to Cascade Locks and was enjoying a well deserved night at a motel. We heard that a fire had started on the lower part of the EC trail caused by kids playing with fireworks. It closed the lower part of the trail and trapped about 200 day hikers for the night between the two fires. I was awoken by a State Trooper at 0230 and told to prepare to leave town right away because the fire by lower Eagle Creek was heading into town having come over the North ridge side of the valley. So, now I still need to hike the Eagle Creek trail now that it is open again. What excitement when the tree fell. Glad all survived. I had an 18” redwood tree limb fall on the trail I was on in the Forest of Nisene Marks in Aptos, Ca. It was right over my head when I heard the crack and backed up far enough to avoid being crushed. The outdoors can get exciting but is always worth visiting.
