+Richard Harrold Lemmy has spent a few years in other bands, but it was the 'Rocking Vicars' you meant. There was also 'Opal Butterfly', 'Sam Gopal', Hawkwind (of course) amongst other short term, non recording outfits. Some of these earlier offerings are somewhat different to what you'd expect from Lemmy, but it's all par for the course and well worth investigating to see what moulded this remarkable man. :-D

@@RebelThoughts82 Don't worry, friend. It's never too late to learn. So, for further reading, I'd very much recommend "White Line Fever" which is Lemmy's autobiography (and a hilarious read, I'd like to emphasise) and I'd also recommend to watch the 2010 film "Lemmy". Have fun (which I'm certain you will) . :-)

Saw Motorhead in the mid-2000s ? At the Temple Theater in Tacoma. Saw Lemmy having a smoke on side of building... holy crap ! Was right after soundcheck, so I said, "There's a bar across the street. I'll buy you a Jack". Well, I bought nothing... and Lemmy bought SO many rounds for the entire bar that I don't think anyone made it to the show ! Damn, I've partied with some "famous" people before... but this was from about 5pm to way past 7pm. "I've got to play a show mate". He gave the bartender 5 $100 bills, "Keep one for yourself and keep pouring". And off he goes right across the street to play a great show. The Dude was fierce ! Miss ya, Lemmy.

Lemmy is from my home city of Stoke-on-Trent born in one of its 5 towns called Burslem. The people from S-o-T are not particularly wealthy, the area known for its pottery which is sold the world over. However the people are the nicest, most down to earth, inoffensive people on the planet. I’m sure if you ever met another Stokie (affectionally known as) they would welcome you with open arms too.

@SuperTelecom Be my guest, fellow Headbloke. I was lucky to have a short chat with Lemmy once back in the early 1980ies at the Monsters of Rock festival in Germany. He was one of the most approachable and at the same time no-nonsense blokes I ever met in the 48 years of my life, and there's just one thing I still do regret: I have a Motörhead tat on my left shoulder (an Ace of Spades with "Motörhead" above and "Born to Lose, Live to Win" below - the latter being the motto which not only helped me going through nurse school, but also winning my degree with full honours, by the way), and it would have been really grand to meet the guy again, having him put his signature below, and then having a tattoo artist ink it. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. And yes, I do know that I could download a picture of Lemmys signature from Teh Interwebs and have it inked - but that just wouldn't be right, so it won't happen. But the tat I have is here to stay and shall ensure that I'll never forget the man, and all the blokes who were with him along the way.

+Jesse Dillinger . You hit that shit on the head Jesse. Maybe it's the $9.95 Lemon Tree mohawk but I'm guessing the jerk- offiness is more than skin deep. I got a great Lem story I want to post here: Though the 1st time I saw Motorhead was in something like '82 at the NY Palladium on their 1st US tour and coincidentally, Eddie's last gig with the band, I first met Lem & his brother Ram at Lamour East, a Rock & Roll joint in Queens NY around '83 and hung with them all night til 5am. A little foggy on the finer details of the night, though remember clearly me & Lem playing Space Invaders for hours and doing bullets of crank, Lem always played with both hands on the machine and a Budweiser beer bottle hanging in his mouth the whole time so he could continuously hydrate and keep playing. Thirsty bloke he was. Anyway, Ram and I stayed in touch for another 10 years as pen pals (pre-email 80's ya know) and of course always saw Lem when Head was in town and could scare up some backstage credentials to share a beer or joint with him backstage and catch up. He was even cool enough to request my band, Falafel Mafia be on the bill with them at the Ritz-Studio 54 show sometime in the 90's. 1st "Rockstar" I ever hung out with and never knew a cooler, nicer more down to earth legend in my life. I am so sad for all of our loss but so grateful for everything you were to us Lemmy.
