Humble. Polite. Mild-mannered. Incredibly talented to the point of defining a genre. It sickens me that a musician of such calibre could have been so horrendously treated by his former band - for years on end, apparently. Mr. Lombardo definitely deserves whatever good things he has left in life coming to him.

Best metal drummer in history...Tom and Kerry were not businessman..everyone in Slayer should have made over a million a year. They weren't even close to that. Dave is the nicest guy. Back in the 90’s during one of his breaks from Slayer, he was touring with Grip Inc and some friends and I went to see them. After the show, my friends were hanging around the tour bus waiting to get an autograph and I, ever the shy, reserved type, was standing a little farther away waiting for them. Dave made his way through the crowd to introduce himself to me…. a random 19-year-old kid. It forever left an impression on me. What a guy!

A big part of me being a metalhead are people like Dave: They are not just playing in a certain band, their passion is music in general. They are at the top, but they respect and admire others. I'm not getting tired of saying that these series not only opened my mind to other styles and artists, but also showed me a part of myself that I love: my musical journey was not about the bands I listened to, it was about the people in these bands, that gave music a soul.

I don't care what anyone says , Dave lombardo is the reason we have super fast extreme double bass drumming in metal music , he entirely changed the direction of metal ( thrash) when reign in blood first came out , unless you were there you will never understand how different , heavy, fast, and skillful and technical Dave's playing was on that album , drummers and metal heads were absolutely blown away by the way Dave played super fast double bass as the main back bone of his beats was just unheard of , every other thrash drummer who was around at that time have all said , when they first heard Dave's feet they were floored and knew they had to step their game up Until that point the fastest double bass drumming for the most part was stuff like , fast as a shark , ace of spades ,that was basically the fastest most extreme double bass playing that existed in metal , until reign in blood .
@iachtulhu1420
@iachtulhu1420 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, in metal that much is true, but in punk, and especially hardcore punk, things were much more extreme, angry, fast and abrasive at that time, much more so then in metal. Metal only later started to resemble extreme punk in intensity due to direct punk influence, of course. To hear is to believe. Just check out Sweden's Asocial or Shitlickers for reference. It's fricking '82. Accept and Venom or bands like that were the nastiest metal around. When you compare this to those Swedish abominations, it's obvious.

@@iachtulhu1420 That's why I said metal , I remember hearing s.o.d and Charlie do a blast beat it blew my mind , then the mid to late 80s gave us drummers like Steve ashiem who completely to extreme metal drumming to the next level .

@@b.nash.7778 I definitely would have loved to hear more classic Bungle, especially anything from California, so I get that. But I think since they don't have a keyboard player in the lineup it would be really difficult to play most of those songs. Plus Patton is a troll and he purposely wanted to fuck with fans by only playing Wrath of the Easter bunny, I never even listened to it until they rereleased it. Just getting to see all those legends on stage though made it all worth it, so I didn't really care if they only played the thrashy stuff, and yes they did do My Ass Is On Fire for the encore and it was probably my favorite moment of the night.

I could tell from the start that there would be zero metal in his bag. Most of Dave's favorites are also my favorites, he really seems to enjoy music in all its myriad forms, which is obvious from the variety of projects that he has been involved with. Early Pink Floyd is very underrated, it is a shame that more people aren't familiar with Syd Barrett, despite the band's best effort to keep his memory alive. He is one of my favorite drummers out there. And I love his selection.

It's always a little amusing to me when I watch episodes that feature members or former members of heavy metal bands, because they all appreciate very different genres of music and very diverse artists, everything from blues, to rap, to classical music. Which is in contrast with many of their fans, who often compete on who's gonna be more "true" and are often very elitist and down right refuse to touch anything that doesn't involve screaming and blast beats :D.

Syd Barrett, Bad Brains, A Tribe Called Quest. All great picks I love it. I just watched that Bad Brains set a couple weeks ago

South of Heaven is STILL one of my top drumming albums of all time. The mood and atmosphere is absolutely top notch with that punk/ speed thrash style, the kit itself sounded REALLY good too! Side note..I could totally see Dave Lombardo pull out a Dave Matthews album (Carter is the man!!) or a Grateful Dead album lol

The Bad Brains Roir cassette is revered. Some lucky people have yet to listen to it... the first time is always a special moment. It will leave you spellbound.

So much love for this guy. Still one of my top 3 drummers, both for inspiration and just for listening to and geeking out on his work. Just uniquely incredible.

Dave! The fucking legend! ❤Don't know how you got Lombardo, but since you could and he's in Bungle now, please bring Mike Patton!

I can honestly say I love all of this man's picks. Even if I wasn't a fan already; if I have never heard of Dave I would have looked him up after this episode.
