Had the chance to have a couple of drinks with Dave while working as a bartender at the Underground Wonder Bar in Chicago a few years back. It was a quiet afternoon, just me and him in the place. We had a great conversation about everything/nothing, shared a few laughs and he was gone. Very casual, matter of fact kinda guy. I loved this short time we spent together hearing a few stories about his life and feeling the history of rock and roll in his energy.....

Scott, I guess #pappyschmears just came out of the closet by exposing his persuasion. That generation, lost to real music, rather listen to nursery rhymes from no-talent street trash anyway. That's why they are so angry and lost. As far as Dave goes. Just seems like a down to earth musician (who can sing and play the strings). Saw him playing at Western Ky University in 1977. Walked in at the beginning of this song. Always been a favorite.

I saw Dave Mason in 1977 with a buddy at Lehigh university, and then again around 1984 at the Palomino - an intimate venue! This guy has such an enormous talent and a very deep soul. He’s been playing behind so many greats, it’s unfathomable that he’s not revered like Clapton. This recording, he’s doing in the same key as he did in the 80s. Now he’s moved it down to a little lower pitch. His voice is older, and he’s still a joy to listen to. As a diehard Beatles fan I have to say that this song stands up to much of the Beatles’ work. That is saying a LOT. What a gifted composer. AND clearly he must be easy to work with since he’s partnered with so many greats.

Beautiful, mellow song that's always nice to hear, even after many years. Brings back nostalgic feeling for me. I remember 1977, living as a teen in NYC. Skyline view of Manhattan from my Queens apartment, with the sun setting behind the Empire State Building. Probably getting ready to jump on my ten-speed for a couple miles through the neighborhood before dark and maybe a slice of pizza on the way home.

I love the maturity of his voice in this version. As good, or perhaps even better than the original because he's lived life and brings that to the song. I know this video is 5 years old now, but damn, his voice certainly lost no power in 2013. Hope that's still true.

picture it. 1976, Manhattan's upper east side. a small club called JPs. First Ave. Word quietly got out that Dave Mason would perform in this tiny place. I was having an affair with my husband's cousin and we decided to attend. [this was before the Ted Danson/Isabella Rosselini movie but the plot was the same] . I carried a leather shoulder bag that night. At one point, I tapped Bobby on the shoulder and said "look". I had removed my arm from the bag and it stayed in the air being held up by the other people who were packed in like sardines. I think of this every time I hear Dave Mason and have no idea why that night is so vivid.

I saw Dave Mason around 2009 at a festival concert. At that time I had heard of him but really didn't know his songs or his background. He did one hell of a great show.
