Great message in this song. Words cannot describe Dave's genius and God given talent. They reproduce music live every night that most people would never try to record in the studio. We are lucky as music lovers that he found what God put him here to do...

In our sociology class, our professor, Sam Richards, showed us this song and said it related to Native Americans and how there land was taken by us. Big eye opener and I've been an avid listen to DMB for 5 years and seen them 5 times. Seriously, listen to the lyrics and read into what he is saying. Sam Richards is well known too. If interested you should check out his TED Talk on empathy.

Come out come out No use in hiding Come now come now Can you not see? There's no place here What were you expecting Not room for both Just room for me So you will lay your arms down Yes I will call this home Away away You have been banished Your land is gone And given me And here I will spread my wings Yes I will call this home What's this you say? You feel a right to remain? Then stay and I will bury you What's that you say Your father's spirit still lives in this place I will silence you Here's the hitch Your horse is leaving Don't miss your boat It's leaving now And as you go I will spread my wings Yes I will call this home I have no time to justify to you Fool, you're blind, move aside for me All I can say to you my new neighbor Is you must move on or I will bury you Now as I rest my feet by this fire Those hands once warmed here I have retired them I can breathe my own air I can sleep more soundly Upon these poor souls I'll build heaven and call it home Cause you're all dead now I live with my justice I live with my greedy need I live with no mercy I live with my frenzied feeding I live with my hatred I live with my jealousy I live with the notion That I don't need anyone but me Don't drink the water Don't drink the water There's blood in the water Don't drink the water

Mitakuye Oyasin I so badly wished I could have come to Standing Rock. That whole situation made me sick. It was something that never should have been thought of, let alone a reality. And this song! It should have been played over a loud speaker there. I still get chills listening to it all the way up with headphones. There's such a powerful force behind Dave's voice and a very important message in the lyrics. More people should hear it.

Actually dude, the song is about both Apartheid in South Africa and the taking of America from the Native Americans. I have heard him sing "This Land is Your Land" in the bridge before, so the connection to America is definitely there. And Dave is from South Africa... so there is the relevance to Apartheid.

Friends, you all have nice opinions about this song and our native americans, but this song is really about the occupation of Israel in Palestine's lands ("no room for both, just room for me"). That's why he sings a gibberish like an arab (palestine) chant. "Lay your arms down" is what told United Nations to Palestine. When he say "you were banished" and "your land is gone and given to me", that's just what happened, so Israel the "new neighbor","will call it home". Heaven is the "promise land".

Now, that is the earmarking of a great band! if they can take a beloved song and completely alter its energy(compared to the original recording) to birth something new that is utterly enjoyable and innervating. Thats when you know, you will still be listening to them till the end of your days..I sure as hell know I will and that I wont miss any of their shows when they play my town!
