Your anger at the intro is so frustrating to watch. I almost couldn’t get past it. The intro is the start of the concert not just the song. It’s what they do at times. You need to chill.

"Boring as hell to watch?" What do you expect them to do onstage? They're musicians not a circus act. There's plenty of metal bands out there who do all sorts of crap on stage with flames in the background, etc. and their music sucks.

I get where you’re coming from in terms of the band not doing much on stage, but a song about the slaughter of Native Americans doesn’t exactly call for a big party on stage. Dave’s eyes were closed but there was passion in his vocal performance. The violin player was into it. No mention of Carter back there having the time of his life behind the drum kit? I mean yeah, it wasn’t a spectacle like a KISS show, but they weren’t corpses either.

Quite frankly I don't think you've heard half of Dave Matthew's stuff. They have hundreds of songs many that are darker themed like this one. Most people only associate them with their poppy stuff that gets played on the radio. Many of their greatest songs were not "radio hits."

I mean, they are a jam band. Did the grateful dead jump around and crowdsurf? It's just a different thing. I get it - you value what you value, but there is something to be said for meeting stuff on its own terms. Also - DMB has a lot of very cool darker toned music that definitely rocks. You should listen to more live tracks without video. Would be great to see you focus on the music.

About the intro- that was a tease for another song, "Grace is Gone", that was stopped as a "sike" so after the song has a four beat rest built intro it at the into into the first chorus. It helps to build up the suspense and it's not "dead air", and is part of their regular shows. They do this all the time, as part of their jazz background, they like to mix things up. People come to DMB concerts for the music, and not just for the show. While you bring an interesting point of view, I feel like your criticism seems to be missing the forest for the trees. There's a reason they've consistently toured with sold out shows for over 30 years, and are the highest grossing band since the 90's. In addition, something to take into account is that the fiddle player, Boyd Tinsley was in the throes of a downward spiral that was affecting Dave and the bands chemistry. They eventually had no choice but to fire him, because of the chronic bs that was happening on and off stage with him. I feel this video was at a bad time for the band, as a live show choice. I know you're a seasoned pro, and as a fellow touring band sound professional, I can understand your criticisms of this particular performance, but in this case, I will respectfully disagree with you.

All along the watchtower from Central Park. Believe me. If you haven’t seen it, you’ll freaking love it. I know you know Jimi Hendrix’s rendition…he made it his own and the entire performance is great…stage presence, audience…it’s got everything - I hope…I really hope you check it out

The intro gives them room to put it at any part of the concert, either at the beginning or in the middle. It also lets them do fakes which they are known to do to spice it up

You clearly don't understand DMB's live shows. EVERY SHOW'S SETLIST IS DIFFERENT. The intro and break that drove you crazy was building anticipation in the audience to see what song was coming. It's part of the great fun of a DMB concert.

Some people do like to just go and see top tier musicians perform their songs live, and don't give a crap about all the theatrics. Usually bands with over the top production are trying to overcompensate for their sub par music.

You may "see a show" but I listen to a performance. You said yourself they played the hell out of the song (though that was far from the best performance of that song I've ever heard). DMB has always put musicianship above showmanship and for mist of us that makes an awesome performance, if not a great show. Recently my wife and I saw a Kenny Chesney show He bounced around the stage carrying a guitar (he never really played it) and couldn't sing because he was out of breath. His opening acts, Zac Brown Band, Uncle Kracker, and Megan Moroney, had great performances, his sucked. We left after five songs because we were bored. Some times you need to grab a drink and listen.

For the hundredth time...the song had nothing to do with my reaction or my evaluation. I made it extremely clear that I am very familiar with the song. Therefore, I had to base my reaction and my evaluation completely on the visual aspects. I can't make it any clearer than that. So if you still don't understand, then I can't help you.

If you want a show, you need to watch Jethro Tull. Brilliant singer/songwriter/flutist/guitarist Ian Anderson in his prime was absolutely the best showman EVER. I suggest anything from the 1977 BBC Sight and Sound concert and/or the 1978 Madison Square Garden concert.

Your score is appropriate for the lack of a performance that I saw on the video. It is interesting that way back when, quite a few groups did not move around much during their live shows. Those that actually performed were always remembered.

I agree with everything, with one exception in the scoring. I believe the solid performance musically should get more than a plus .2. I think it deserves at least 1 full point, which still makes it only a 3.5.

So the musicianship and sound quality is only 2% of a live performance? Why even have music at all then? Just go see dancers. Or, go see a big lyp synced Taylor swift show with props l, lights, and 50 idiots dancing. Also, when Dave closes his eyes, it actually connects people in a much deeper way than someone doing the splits or whatever. Maybe, because your a musician you have a skewed sence of what the fans like. Im totally fine with a bamd that is totally still. Its just a different genre. Your so fair and open minded usually but this just seems personal.

You really need to go back and watch the entire video, especially the parts in the video where I very clearly explain what is happening and why it's happening in regards to the scoring. For the hundredth time...the song had nothing to do with my reaction or my evaluation. I made it extremely clear at the beginning of the video, and before I gave my score, that I am VERY FAMILIAR with the song. I love this song, it's probably my favorite song by Dave Matthews Band. But since I have heard it before (many times), I can't take the song or the song writing into account at all. Therefore, I had no choice but to base my reaction and my evaluation completely on the visual aspects. This has been how it has ALWAYS BEEN on the channel in regards to doing reactions to songs I already know or have heard previously to the reaction. I can't make it any clearer than that. So if you still don't understand, then I can't help you.
