Golf has not been and never will be the same again beyond this era. There will never be another like Seve Ballesteros. He may not have the best record, but no one was innately as talented as he was. I heard Greg Norman say one time on television that of all the golfers he saw anywhere in the world, he never saw anyone like Seve. It is a shame that some people have to get old, and unfortunately, pass away. Seve is one of those people. RIP, Seve..........

For a European battling American arrogance and resistance, I’d say his record stands up against anyone. Never playing full time in America obviously cost him. And them banning him from the tour in 86 cost him at least one major that year. And he thinks they cost him the 83 US open. He never had a chance in the pga most years due to his preparation. If he was American he’d have won at least twice as many majors. At least. 1 European in the 83 US Open. Europeans today have it very easy. Because of what Seve and those who followed him up did.

Seve is still the greatest. How golf has changed, after watching Bryson victory at Winged Foot and then watching Seve it's a whole different game

My hero, loved him! Reason I took up golf in the 80s.....just a genius. Hale Irwin said he just knew where to miss in 79, didn't realise at the time but he said he was watching a genius at work.....seemed to mellowed over the years as he got older and that comment below is beyond disgusting and has been reported

Caddies llke Dave and Billy Foster are pure gold to listen to, much more interesting than most players.

If they never had a good player to caddy for then you wouldn't even know who they were. The player alone is the reason he/she wins, and not the caddy.

David J - I don't disagree, my point was about being interesting, not about being famous.

But we never get to hear from these modern caddies, I can't recall any names either from the best caddies, it's very different from the past years of golf. Dave Musgrove was very chirpy, where is Pete Coleman?

David - Yes true, I'm sure that many fascinating stories are untold from people like Coleman. You're probably familiar with the 'caddies' stories' books about the Open and Ryder Cup. Fascinating, I wish there was more ! I do reckon Foster will publish a book eventually though.

Ysgol3 ,I never really read alot about the caddies and have heard most from world famous golf journalist, my Dad was his boss and I was lucky yo play golf with this golf journalist, he told me many stories, and even brought me back Augusta golf shirt from the Masters in 1987, I try not to dwell on the old days though. Foster needs to be careful about what he writes, Seve isn't alive to decide if it should be published or not. Hasn't Billy made enough ut of his work with Seve?

Highly motivated, performance orientated people are often inclined to anti social behavior. Seve was no exception.

was the tv commentator peter allis? the words spoken sound lke him but the voice sounds much posher than him.

Yes it was allis. Though it wasn’t his commentary at the time. It’s commentary he did later for the video release/official film. He did that for all the Open films and they all sound a little weird in comparison to his normal commentating. Must be some kind of processing.
