Such a cruel injustice that this great sporting icon never got to enjoy all that appreciation as an older man. Loved so much and missed even more. May not have won as many majors as some but who cares...He had the natural ability married with the passion, the charisma and the looks. That's why he can never be bettered. Seve - the greatest

The reason I started playing loved SEVE even got his ball at the Irish open at mount Juliet ... .it was unbelievable being so close to him he signed two programmes for me and gave like a hundred people autographs at the side of the 18th green. Absolutely a legend the only guy to stop with the fans too..... Genuinely a genius on the golf course such imagination and skill have his movie down stairs and can't watch it without crying even now.

I was there on pro am day, as my dad was playing in the pro am with Neil Coles. Seve was playing with the sponsors from Suntory and he had a bad cold. I was only 7 so I ran after him when he'd finished and tripped over grazing my knee. Seve turned around picked me up, patted me on the head and said "you ok", I was truly spell bound. My brother told me I'd been blessed by a golfing god.

I was there that day. My dad and I followed him for several holes. It was memorable but for a sad reason. We witnessed a strange event on two separate holes where he did the same thing: I think one of his playing partners was Ian Poulter and Seve's approach shot to the green was short by about 15 yards. He briskly marched up to the ball, selected his club and addressed it ready to play when his caddie (son), Ian's caddie and Ian himself all shouted to him to wait... Ian was still back in the middle of the fairway waiting to play his own approach shot but couldn't because Seve had marched into his path! It was strange and we both felt something was wrong. He was entirely focused on his game of course but his unawareness of his playing partner's position was a noticeable feature. Of course he apologised and stood back so Ian could play to the green. The second time it happened Ian was visibly frustrated s perhaps he'd done it on more than one hole, I don't know as we only followed him for about 4-5 holes. His legacy is unsurpassed in an era when golf was more elitist than it is today. IMO he brought flamboyance, flair and style to the game. RIP

I was a plus 2 in my prime and I lost my game completely in the space of 2 months. Turned out I had my left wrist detach at the ulna bone and at impact I had no control over the club face. I was 52 and now at 71 I still love the game but I can't go out and hack it around, no fun. I can relate to Seve's last years in the game. He was such a star in his prime.

Europe's greatest ever. Equipment changes did him no favours later in his career. He was majestic with a persimmon driver and a wizard with a blade putter. I wonder what young Poulter thought of playing with him, must have been an amazing feeling.

Sad to see how his swing had become strangled by his back problems. His whole action depended on fluidity of movement but it must have been wonderful to be there nonetheless. Just 5 years later we lost him. He was one of the few people in sport who could bring me to tears and emote such love from the crowd who had seen him triumph and win and lose. I am really good at getting out of trouble on the course. Why? Because I did what Seve did, practiced hitting balls around trees, over bushes, out of crap lies, hitting from awkward stances etc. I thought if Seve does that to get better, I can do that as well. And the proof is last Sunday, I played with 3 mates. I am 60, next age was 47, then 31 and 29. My score was 84, next was 90, then 91 and 93. They all hit their drivers at least 30 metres past me. But my second shots were always better and I chipped and putted better. And that is the norm when I play. People hit longer than me, yet do not beat me. That is how you learn, watch the best and see how and what they practice.
