I read that Alan Price did not like to fly and had psychological problems in dealing with fame. Also, when his new electric piano was stolen, the rest of the band did not want to chip in to replace it. I think he may have held a grudge. When he quit the band, he just did not show up. Eric was the soul and voice of the group but Alan was the musical genius surrounded by those who did not try to understand him.
@rare_medium Жыл бұрын
I just saw Alan perform live last week and he reiterated that he left the band because he hated flying. He didn't say anything about dealing with fame, but I think he is uneasy with it. His playing is not diminished.

Burdon was (according to Steel, I seem to recall having read) that he would get picked up by police or similar due to some money dispute and hence did not want to visit the US. For one thing, it was nice of AP to acknowledge him, but looking at the footage he clearly behaves like a prat, not greting the presenter and not exchanging one word with his former band mates. Steel (again) has said that Price also refused to share the same table as the others. Prick.
@mnpd38 жыл бұрын
+Erik Iancovici Well, there was (and is) unresolved friction there. The original Animals recorded and toured their butts off only to discover that they were broke. Where the money went is a mystery with several speculations, but one possibility is that Alan Price took off with it. Of course Burdon would not be arrested if he showed up in the States ---- Price is probably the reason.
@ErikIancovici8 жыл бұрын
+mnpd3 Hello :) Well Burdon could well have been, if the Steel story regarding the money is true. There is a 4-to-Price majority saying Valentine was the original discoverer of "Rising Sun" and the one who suggested the to the group (there is an Animals documentary from about 1995 on KZbin having all 4, including Chandler, stating this, but that the arrangements etc. were really a "group effort". Either Price is not telling the truth (or, as some have said, he has convinced himself he really was the man behind everything), or, as an act of revenge, the other 4 agreed to stick to the same story and to maintain that view in a no-matter-what fashion for eternity, which seems improbable. In the aforementioned documentary, Price does seem to take all credit; in other places, he simply states that "a name had to be registered, and there was not room for all five". Well if so, he surely could have checked and divided the royalties betwenn them all, I would think? Personally I believe the other 4, not less due to Steel who seems the most trustworthy source to me personally, probably followed by Chandler. As for the rest of the money, don't forget Mike Jeffries was their manager... Oh dear. Thought an Axl + Slash reunion was impossible? Even an CCR reunion seems more probable than a Burdon + Price one. But the money to be made...!
@FR-ed4zy3 жыл бұрын
Eternels souvenirs !

I 'm guessing that little napolean complex Burden didn't want to show because Alan Price did and that if EB wasn't such a jerk he would have still been with the original line-up longer instead of a totally different band 3 or 4 years after they got to the US. Also Prices seemingly humble tribute to EB could be looked at as a backhand because he didn't have the balls to show up. "hey man you are the leader You should be here" ! jmo
@JKSinTO9 жыл бұрын
+DrHogfan If you read the history of the Animals, you will find that all the other band members says that Price walked off with the royalties to House of the Rising Sun, which they were all supposed to share. That was the festering wound that caused them to break up and poisoned all their reunion efforts.

Even the Eagles (victims of terrible feuding) had all of their original members speaking and performing at their induction. You would have thought these good and talented lads could have set their problems aside for one night and all been there and given us a performance of House of the rising sun! They earned it (influential and sometimes underrated) and deserved a better and less awkward night. Especially with Berry there!
