A fool will criticize based on feelings, instead of logic and facts. Keep up the amazing work you do Nikki. You are reaching the right people everyday! For those who fail to be responsible with their money, they will stay broke, and critical, of those who are more disciplined and fiscally wise.

Example: Some people do better paying off smallest accounts first and working their way up, by total balance, saving the largest account for last. They get the sense of accomplishment for each payoff and it motivates them to keep going. For me, the *only* sensible thing was to work from the highest *rate* account, downward. Same endpoint achieved, but all things being equal, my chosen method got me there faster. But that's because all the motivation was internal. Others move differently, and that's OK.

I think that's the reason Dave Ramsey's approach works for some people. Those people that are disagreeing with you, don't understand what you meant, and also probably couldn't handle "treating themselves" in any appropriate level and end up further in debt.

Who ever said bodybuilders don’t have cheat meals during contest prep never competed. Most folks in the industry will have one per week until about 2-4 weeks out (depending on how things are coming along). Additionally, some will have one the night before the competition and yet another one between prejudging and the night show.

NIkki, as a biologist with a master's degree in Microbiology, I have learned that uneducated people who follow a couple of guys with great ideas on the internet... that kind of people does not know how to critically think. They only know how to chew whatever their guru gives them, and to hate whatever sounds different. I applaud you for investing your valuable time on giving us info and perspective that can improve our relationship with money. I don't have that kind of compassion for people. I also want to add that you handled this situation with grace, class and intelligence. Which I also applaud. Keep doing your think. If Dave Ramsey was a weight loss consultant - Eat steamed broccoli and 3 ounces of steamed white meat chicken breast twice a day, run 10 miles every day. And if you have any excess weight, you don't deserve or can't afford to have an enjoyable snack or a rest day. And when you are in perfect shape, maybe you can eat enjoyable foods occasionally and not run 10 miles if you have jaundice.

Different approaches for different people...I had to go hard because the "cheats" on "cheats" had put me in the jam I was in. Six months, zero meals out can really help change a poor person's financial picture. Others would be happier doing the same over a SEVEN-month period with 1-2 meals out each week.

Different audiences. Dave's plan is for dealing with addicts. Addicts don't get to cheat. If they could handle that they wouldn't be addicts in the first place. He's not for people that make a mistake here and there but still have an overall B+ grade.

I couldn’t imagine giving up everything while I pay off my student loans. Never eat out, never buy something nice for the house what a boring existence. If you do your own taxes or even look at your paycheck you know your income and tax brackets are based on income so that’s easy too. A lot of people track their money and even know their savings rate and monthly spend. The average Dave Ramsey fan would know all this since they use every dollar app. On the top is income.

Yep a little reward fund you make X amount a month and are left with Y amount after NEEDED living expenses. Invest / save a portion of Y and take a little out of Y and make a Z fund of like 70$ - 90$ a month for fun. Bowling / mini golf / arcades it isn't that expensive to have a good time now and again. But if your definition of a good time is traveling out of the country every few months or going out EVERY DAY... thats a different story. End of the day it depends on your income - living expenses but a proper budget will SAVE you stress at the very least.

I can listen to you talk all day,😍😍 Hahah seriously though, yeah it's just BUDGETING everything. You can go out once in a while. If you're ok with spending the money. Then plan it . Me and yes. You can have a cheat meal. Once every two weeks all eat chips. And maybe some pizza. The other 13 days .,i eat ONLY my planned macros. It's all goodi. I tell people as far as dieting. Just buy the Tupperware. Buy rice. Meat and veggies and get into the habbit of Meal prepping first. Like months and months. Then. Get the numbers and weighing your food. The habit is first. Then the details

There has to be a balance, like all things. Everyone should have some sort of financial savings (3-6 months emergency, plus active income for monthly bills, groceries, gas and so on) but also be able to ENJOY THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR! Tomorrow is never guaranteed; any one of us can die tomorrow and what would that have yielded us? A lot of savings but not being able to experience or enjoy our lives. And what’s worse? When you’re dead then someone else will squander all of your hard work and labor and use it for their own benefit. Again, this is not to incentivize people to just YOLO your money. Have structure to your life but balanced. Paid all your bills? Have a good amount in savings? Gas in the tank? That’s great! Go out and enjoy a night at a nice restaurant or go to a music event or get a tattoo! It’s your life, you only have it once. Enjoy your hard work but don’t be careless. Love to everyone out there.

Am I the only one who's a fan of both Nikki and Dave? They have different perspectives, but I've learned something from both of them. It would be cool to see her go on Dave's show and debate him sometime. Also, in Dave's defense, he has said that the whole "gazelle intense" thing is supposed to be a very temporary measure to get out of debt. It's not supposed to go on for years or, God forbid, a whole lifetime.

Not because of anything Dave Ramsey teaches but because we wanted to throw off the yoke of debt, we stayed away from eateries and the movies and all that stuff for 4 years. At the beginning my wife did all the cooking but I jumped in and taught myself how to cook and do the shopping and since we are debt free for three months we have eaten out twice. Spouse and I both work full time and we both commute 100 miles/day and still we dig deep and find the energy to cook our food, clean our house and do the shopping. Quite honestly we eat like royalty at home on a very low budget and yeah we will eat out from time to time going forward but someone who wants to rid themselves of massive debt as fast as possible should cut expenses and eating out is a good place if one eats out a lot. I'm sorry some people that take a different approach to financial bliss might have been rude though.

The thing I don't understand is the "reward" part. Isn't getting out of debt a reward for people? Imagine having no payments that aren't require for living and doing whatever you want with your money. Isn't that the reward?

What Dave Ramsey is attempting to do is for those who are at adult age to grow up and act that age. Its tough love approach. I'm 70 years old and I was/am a Dave Ramsey type of guy BEFORE there was a Dave Ramsey or before I even knew of him till the late 1990's. Most of these folks are nothing but adult children when it comes to money and believe me my parents generation were 5 to 10 times more harsh than Ramsey. Hell they would see him as a weak willed pussy; I kid you NOT! Most of these people are just wild with credit cards and a vast majority of you people know this to be true! So let's not kid ourselves its time to man up and lady up on the finances!

Depends on how much debt you're in. I have a small loan of slightly over $2,500 that I'll have knocked out no later than August of this year. I also owe a family member $684, and I owe collections around $230 from AT&T. I also have a low enough cost of living to where I can save 40 plus percent of my income. I can go out to eat here and there and I'll be just fine. It won't affect when I plan to have my debt paid off. Now, a couple with $180,000 of debt on the verge of losing their house? Sorry, but no, they can't take it easy.

@@SheTalksFinance No doubt Ramsey is the AA for debt-o-holics and has saved many lives financially. Let's be honest how many people do you know or known that had credit card problems in a major way??? Lost count? Same for me and a whole lot more as I'm 70 years old! What Ramsey is doing is simply shooting the odds that the majority of his listeners have finally realized that debt and their live don't mix. Since a HUGE portion of population have severe credit problems this makes for a huge area for him to market to. This doesn't mean that everything Dave states I'm 100% all in on even for his ardent listeners. His 12% return and 8% withdraw rate - well - just to put bluntly is full of crap especially today as the market is massively overvalued. So yes I have problems with Dave.

If people want to go to the restaurant while being in debt, they need to be making debt payments first. Example, someone $10,000 in credit card debt, should pay $350 on principle + interest, then they can go to a restaurant. And then repeat and start the process all over again until the debt is paid off.
@Duke_of_Prunes2 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree with you. But, 1) $350 is on the very low side of a $10K balance, and 2) they need to pay cash, only, for dinner out.

Agree... and they should show discipline over a certain amount of time before they do something that is "discretionary". It's about learning to change habits gradually and within reason depending on the individual.
