At 35 years of age, it is almost impossible to listen to the points that these 20 year olds make to advocate for certain policies. “Expand Social Security” not realizing that the entire program will be nearly bankrupt in 2034 unless drastic measures are implemented. “Expand education” not realizing that this supposed expansion of free college is what has led universities to charge 30k - 50k+ a year for degrees that will net you 40k a year before taxes. They are advocating for the gov’t to cripple their own generation under insurmountable debt before they even start to live. They are so disappointing!

Why is SS almost bankrupt? How is it funded? The Baby Boomers are in retirement age right now, and the elderly use up 80% of Medicare. Obviously the older you get the more medical attention you usually need. Wonder if capping medical prices would help. Speaking of capping prices, capping federal funded colleges. It manages to work up until senior year. Private schools can charge whatever they want, the govt can force colleges to came back down to earth, just like Healthcare prices.
@erickloyo32045 ай бұрын
@@BlueDirt_ProAggressive That’s a very good question, actually. Mechanically, SS, we are told, is funded through tax contributions made by workers through FICA. However, given the fact that distributions from the program continue to increase due to longer life expectancy, as you correctly pointed out, coupled with births at an all-time low, it is virtually impossible to keep benefits at current levels (gov is distributing more than they are incurring in tax revenue). That leaves us with a few solutions, 2 of which are extremely unpopular. The gov either raises taxes or it raises the age at which seniors are allowed to receive SS benefits. The other solution which no politician wants to propose is sunsetting the program gradually for folks of a certain age like myself, stopping FICA taxes allowing us to keep more money in our paychecks to look for our own retirement vehicles and introducing a law that tells employers that they must have a mandatory contribution for every employee (5% per paycheck for example) that they need to match $ for $ and invested in S&P 500 ETFs or Mutual Funds so that 95% of people have that safety net.

You call big bad America, where we spend trillions of our taxes to protect these people across the world. If we back out of our 800 military bases across the world we could have free healthcare too. Welfare should be for people who get in trouble, not for people who don't want to work. My dad died at 41, I was 8, my mom never went on welfare, but it is for people who find themselves in bad situations. It shouldn't be, where they say oh you have two kids well you can get so much more if you havd four kids. it should be, will help you with your two kids, but if you end up having two more kids while you're in the program, you're not getting any more.

After the exam I was told yes you need hearing aids, but the state will not pay for them until you reach 65. Not sure why I was given the test, unless it was just to milk the system? I have needed nonessential surgery for over three years now. Not sure when that will happen. Australia has private healthcare, the problem is it doesn’t cover anything. No exams, prescriptions, basically only emergencies, not even all cancers.

@25taylorkw6 ай бұрын
Personally I do not think the Nordic style economic policies is necessary. In fact having those exact policies in the United States would make the US government too big and too bureaucratic. The United States needs to become a country that represent having a limited government with the government only doing these four types of things. - Having a minimum of common-sense regulations ( like enforcing antitrust laws, basic zoning laws, and simple environmental protections ) without over regulating the US economy ( aka getting rid of 70% of current existing regulations that are meaningless to exist ). - Establishing laws that prohibits committing violent crimes, theft, vandalism, and prohibited violating age limit laws with also establishing a strong border that highly prevents illegal immigration. - Protecting individual rights like civil rights, body autonomy rights, and obviously constitutional rights. - Having funding for the US military, the US infrastructure, only having 3 social safety net programs ( aka having the EITC program and the Medicaid Program for poor people with the SSI program for people with disabilities ), and possibly even having a opt-in public catastrophic health insurance option that people can choose to pay taxes on or not.

as a teacher for over 40 yrs i can tell you that the upward mobility has more to do with the culture of the students and not the amount of money spent on schools

The Cuban lady is absolutely right. Social welfare policies will have the "that can" paying for "that cant or wont". But eventually there is not enough who can. So we will all be getting Fs on our report cards....as the analogy to school goes.

The black community prior to civil rights and the 'equality agenda' had low crime, black owned businesses, an 80% marital rate (despite it being illegal for them to get married at some point). And most of all, the community raised the children. Asian, Latina and Muslim communities in western societies still operate under such principles hence why they do better socio-economically compared to progressive communities. Progressiveness has contributed to the destruction of morals, values and the family foundation.

Citizens create the environment of the neighborhood. If the business feels saved, then the business will move in there.
