People like to criticize Dave Rubin by saying that he throws softballs to his guests, giving yeses and nods to nearly everything they say. But he never lies about his own beliefs, and he isn't saying that he necessarily agrees or thinks his guests are always right. His show is about an *open* dialogue which allows both sides to express themselves without getting into a polarizing argument. By allowing people to say what they want, they can have a much more in-depth and useful conversation, and the ideas can be judged by their own merit instead of by emotional response. At 1:18, he says "When did sitting down with someone that you might disagree with become so rare?" I'd say it became rare when yelling, flinging insults, and silencing your opposition became the norm rather than talking things out with reason and rationality. Thank Dave Rubin for helping everyone see how ridiculous they're being.

AssailantLF exactly, well said. He actually lets the viewer make up their own mind, that's the difference. People nowadays don't know to be outraged until someone tells them how to think. I heard Lauren Southern talking about a BLM rally and the speaker says "Trump" and they all scream hate then she says " Trudeau" and they cheer, then she quickly says "no, he's against us!" So they all scream hate. Just like that, they were willing to hate because someone told them to. This is what scares me about MSM now people believe everything their told to hate and have lost critical thinking

Rubin is right about Islam too. We have to be able to FULLY and FREELY talk about it, without jumping to defend it, without squirming in our seats. People who defend it almost always haven't even studied it. If Islam is to be treated like any other religion in the west, then it MUST be subject to AT LEAST the same level of free criticism as the historical religions of the west. If it can't take the heat, it fails the test -- i.e. full analysis and public discussion of the the reality and truth about Islam and its relationship with the west. How we treat PEOPLE is a different thing. We must not be intimidated by identity politics. Identity politics has been interwoven with Islam. In fact, we have to gain back ground from these ideologies. The discussion has to begin WELL BEFORE Muslims become an overwhelming force -- which under ID politics does not take much -- because Islam is POWERFUL -- NOT a weak ideology. And identity politics also is a STRONG ideology. We can't tiptoe around ANY MORE or we are falling for intimidation and manipulation at the expense of our values.

I consider myself a liberatarian- ever since I turned 18 a decade ago. I had a conversation with my political science professor (he was actually one of the "good professors"- he cherished his student's viewpoints and encouraged them... Even though he was a die hard liberal). He never ganged up on anyone with conservative views, like myself on many things. I have had professors who did gang up on me, 30 students and a professor vs. myself. I'd like to think I held my own. I digress- while talking with my "good" professor, after hearing my political views out in a private conversation, he described me as a "classical liberal", just like what Dave Rubin said. I heard the word "liberal" and I was about to pounce on him. But he quickly said, since I'm a live-and-let-live kind of guy, and do agree that there should be SOME helping out of people in need (only for a few months if they absolutely NEED it... And only if they have kids they need care for.) He said I thought how the democratic party used to think during JFK's time. So I'd like to think of myself as a JFK democrat, but I'd prefer libertarian, because anything with the word "liberal" with my type of views would get people confused. In short, JFK would be rolling in his grave to see what his party has become.

His best quality and I like to think my best quality as well, is the ability to hear all arguments, consider them carefully ,change his mind and admit when he was wrong. Most people go into a debate or conversion knowing that they are correct and no arguments, regardless off how persuasive they are will change their mind. That is a recipe for totalitarianism nomatter which side of the isle you are on.

Very good conversation guys. I am a 60 year old, white, father and now grandfather, Mississippi born and raised retired Marine and don't tell me you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Maybe with age, comes wisdom, but I am pleased that our society is slowly but surly overcoming their fear of sexual predispositions and racial stereotypes. These things were based in ignorance. Today, I'd have to say I have my share of social Libertarian and even liberal views, but I remain conservative when it comes to financial matters. And I believe there would be enough money for necessary programs helping the less fortunate among us... as well as the safety of tending and continuing our Social Security system... "IF" we were more fixated on saving the human race rather than blowing them up! "IF" there weren't so much pork in among every bill that ever hit the Senate floor! "IF" we actually "loved" more... and "feared" less. So, yes, I blame the arms industries for promoting war and fear for their profit motives! And I blame lobbyist in general for promoting the sheer greed in our system! *"MONEY MUST BE REMOVED FROM POLITICS, SO THAT WE MAY TELL IT APART FROM PROSTITUTION!"* In regard to the left becoming more staunch and hardened in their stances... The irony is, I believe what started the (hate/fear) ball to rolling was several years of what has become known as "alt-right media" coming to the forefront primarily starting when Obama became president. At first, it seemed to be obvious racism... absolutely based in fear, misunderstanding and just pure ignorance! And this fear became contagious... and it started effecting the left (the liberals and progressives). "BOTH" of these worlds see what has come to a head, (when Trump became president), as their view of what life supposed to be, being turned upside down and offending their sense of justice being threatened! I am one the odd people who actually listens to all political points of view. I have spent the last several years enveloped in watching and reacting to on-line debate of news and opinion based media (mostly KZbin) for two hours a day 6a - 8a each M-F. And because I cannot get liberal radio, I tend to listen to right wing radio (mostly Fox pundits)... and I have come to some absolutes about the lead talking heads there. The key phrase that comes to mind with Fox is... "self victimized." They don't realize it, but, they are convinced their world is being invaded and they are being forced into change that makes them dig in their heels, regardless of if it is actually effecting their lives or not! So, what is the answer? Is there a solution? I believe, yes, there is, but we must begin to turn from just being immediately offended, into listening and trying to understand and empathize with each others fears... and if that doesn't work, we must focus on the many things we ALL have in common. Lately, I have challenged myself to address the most hard core of what I consider my opposition and see if I can turn negative condemnation into positive conversation. To my surprise, some of the most simplest things can disarm our most ardent detractors and turn these negatives into positives! Many of the alt-right and hard conservative Trump supporters, for example, start to calm down when I let them know I was a Marine. Others can be brought around by viewing their profiles and identifying with something in their life... maybe music... or wood working... literally anything we may have in common almost immediately brings us from insulting to discussing... and that, my friend makes "anything" possible! My new motto is... "Truth above Politics... Always!" vonSuthoff PS: This is my first time watching your program, but it won't be the last. I just subscribed. Thank you for an intelligent and meaningful conversation with your guest, Dave Rubin.

I don't get the whole sticking up for the minority shtick that progressives embody. These minorities they're sticking up for, it could go one of three ways: One person could see themselves as the victim (goal achieved!) One person could just not give a shit And the last person could talk out against these progressive ideas because they are patronizing. Treating someone different, even if progressives think they're being ultra nice to them, is just patronizing. It's treating these minorities like they don't have a voice to begin with, like they're a baby who can't defend themselves. It's insulting.

I think Rubin is right about Milo too. I was so "out of it" politically and didn't begin to realize the extreme ideological agenda of the left -- until I saw Milo go up against the ideologues on KZbin. It wasn't a pretty picture. The truth often is NOT PRETTY. Since then I've tried to educate myself about nuance and the more complex truth, and not just the shocking truth. I would not choose Milo for my best friend or agree with all his tactics but he seems to MATCH the NEEDS of THE DAY -- sort of like Trump. It is unfortunate, perhaps, but it takes all kinds to make things happen. Often the "bad" guy has to do the dirty work. And finally, slander and absolute judgment, guilt by association, rabid rejection and intimidation -- THESE ARE THE PROBLEMS OF THE DAY. So we have to stand for a respect for the COMPLEXITY OF HUMAN BEINGS and the belief that often APPEARANCE AND REALITY ARE NOT THE SAME THING. The white hats and the black hats are not so simple a thing to discern -- at least COLLECTIVELY. Discernment AS INDIVIDUALS is needed, not GROUP "THINK". Discernment requires real thought, discussion, analysis, and wisdom, not mass movement and virtue signaling.

I am more discerning when forming opinions and beliefs now and have reached conclusions similar to yours.

Ankaa Black Thank you for bringing me back to this video. I really like what Dave Rubin is saying: We need to work to build a healthy culture in this spirit. How do we organize or at least do our individual part and hold fast to our freedom?
@crucialtaunt5717
@crucialtaunt5717 5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry it took me a few days to get back to you-I have given this some thought. I think a good way for people like me (and perhaps you) to support those doing the heavy lifting in building a healthier culture is by always checking ourselves-getting news from all sources(I've realized the truth of what is reported is most likely somewhere in the middle for many issues), checking facts from opinion pieces and making sure there are legitimate sources for the "facts" (for example if someone quotes a study, research the study to see if the conclusion has been replicated by other studies, see how big the sample size is in a survey or study, always checking the actual study or survey no matter what after reading the article, etc), and not sharing articles that distort or have headlines(because many people just see a headline, form an opinion, and not actually read the post) that distort studies and facts without making a disclaimer explaining the distortion. Another big thing to do is ALWAYS keep to the facts; let the facts, and not initial emotions, drive what forms your opinions. Having passion, compassion, anger, sympathy, empathy are great things and can be helpful, but for many people(myself included) it drives them. Stopping and forcing yourself to REALLY research before you let it drive your decision making is sooo important. On a personal note, I work at not letting my emotions drive and I am trying to get my husband to apply this FAIRLY to his politics when we discuss things. We have had many arguments since I have changed, because he tends to avoid research for political issues if it will reach a conclusion that doesn't fit the narrative he subscribes to; or he will use biased sources to reach the conclusion to fit his narrative; or he will just immediately be dismissive of a point of view or life situation of an individual if they vote for the other side of the aisle. (To be fair to him I was the same way and thought like he did, but now we are constantly butting heads.) I believe sticking to the facts will help to avoid tribalism and treating politics like cheering for a favorite sports team-two things that are so destructive to society. Be open to changing no matter how much it hurts to let go and encourage others to do the same. I think doing things like this to build the foundation and then communicating(whether on social media, comment sections in articles, and to those in physical conversations) in a civil way(no matter how shitty their potential reaction might be or is) with those who have opinions that disagree in these scenarios is a great way to do the individual part. Milo drove me to make changes, but not everyone responds to shock- some people respond to seeing a person reply in a civil, thoughtful manner, ESPECIALLY if they are bystanders of an interaction. Voting for candidates who prize free speech (and explaining what it is and how it is applied to people who don't understand that in the first place) whenever possible. Supporting other countries that have a tradition of and value free speech that are under threat (like France and Charlie Hebdo situation or Lindsay Shepherd when she was unfairly reprimanded by her uni in Canada) in comment sections, too. Many people don't realize how easy it would be for free speech to disappear if we don't value it enough. These seem like basic things and maybe they don't need to be said, because people are already doing them, but it is relatively new to me and where my mind went when I read your question. If someone wants to do heavier lifting, starting a blog they are willing to pimp on social media, youtube channel, a meet-up group, and rallying people in your local area if issues crop up might be good ways to start. I don't know what else to do for the heavier lifting, mainly because I tend to think on personal level. Sorry for the long-winded reply, btw.

More people have gone from left thinking to right than from right thinking to left. I can think of very few, if any, that were committed right ideology thinkers that are now leftists. On the other hand those that have made the journey from left to right are many. David Horowitz, Sol Stern, Peter Collier, Irving Kristol, Ronald Reagan, Milton Friedman and the list goes on

Even this supposed "libertarian" interviewing Rubin felt he needed to jump back from Rubin's completely correct comment on the problems within countries where Islam has taken control. Dave plainly said "ideology", not the people. Yet, the interviewer felt he had to slightly bump against that, probably so as not to be considering "islamophobic", whatever that means.

Matthew Johnson - Ideology breeds culture. Culture is attached to people. Even if we were to rid away all the evil aspects of the Islamic ideology those that have had Islamic ideals practiced and pushed on to them will continuously practice and pass on their customs to generation to generation. It becomes a culture of people which would make the people risky to have enter your society if they can’t assimilate.
