Dave, if you don’t cover your 6 or your back side! There are some that will take a huge chunk out of it! Remember when your crawling under the wires and your told not to stick anything on your body you want to keep above the wires! There’s always some that just don’t believe you! So they hit a hard spot or a high spot and the first thing the stick up into the wires is? The answer is one of two things and neither one is where you want to catch a piece of hot lead! Usually it’s their back side or @$$‼️ 🇺🇸👍🏻❤️🙏‼️ 🫡

I haven't seen anybody get so excited about getting a new rock drill, since I got one. Merry Christmas Dave. You gotta try the stirrup/rope combo over the handles. Keep you from getting Carpal Tunnel, and a lot less work.
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast Жыл бұрын
I have tried the stirrup Mark and could not really come to terms with it, found that my drilling accuracy was all over the place. I don't have any Carpal Tunnel or White finger problems after nearly 30 years. I think the deciding issues are 1/forget the short stroke high frequency, light weight drills as they are a shocker to hang onto, 2/ add extra padding on the handles and always wear heavy gloves, 3/ Don't smoke as this ruins your circulation and exacerbates the problem.
@markmayer2029
@markmayer2029 Жыл бұрын
@@demolitiondavedrillandblast Throwing the leg over the drill will throw off the drill more than putting your foot in the stirrup. I have also seen a foot peg that gets installed onto a side rod, where the washer would normally go. Good balance is a definite necessity with all techniques. I really like my Tamrok Commando 300 over a sinker any day. I also use a bunch of screw feed drills with mountings on mini excavators and skid loaders. I've been running sinkers for 45 years, and have to agree that high RPM drills mess with your hands. Keep the pressure sane, and have fun. Cheers!

You really need to post some video Mark. For me, the leg over is what I'm used to and was able to drill very strait and parallel holes for nice looking pre splits... until I was forced to have that "safe and effective" medical intervention recently - that screwed up balance and drilling accuracy - can anybody say neurological damage. Thankfully I have mostly recovered now. I have the drill on the mini excavator but wish I could afford a 300 as they have everything in a fully self contained package, very costly over here though, e.g. $100,000 for a very tired unit.

Have you had a look at Boarts S250-M3 sinker drills Dave ? Designed for shaft sinking with penetration of 1.7ft/min and anti vibration . Not sure if you can run them without water . I always favoured Boart jacklegs and stopers for reliability, reasonable weight and good penetration.

Just had a look at the specs - that is a monster of a drill @37Kg. Jackleg / Sinker Rock drill Specification: Bore 79.4 mm 3.126 in Stroke 73.25 mm 2.884 in Any wet drill can be converted or you just connect air up to the water input, as long as you are not drilling large deep holes, this is OK. Otherwise you must change the flushing tube - the tube for air slushing is a larger diameter. The S250-M3 is probably best suited to an operator a lot larger than me, I have a big Holman sinker (35Kg.) that nobody has been able to identify, I should do a video featuring it.

@@demolitiondavedrillandblast I don't blame you. New tools = TLC. Reminds me when I was working on a construction site. I had a white hardhat with my name on it. I was part of management making sure contractors weren't cutting corners and following the specs. Old time comes up to me and said he liked me and respected my position. Told me to 'season' my hardhat... toss it around, scuff it up, get it dirty. He said brand new hardhat = brand new superintendent, workers didn't trust newbies. Still have that hardhat. I did scuff it up. But after 10 years in the field, it got plenty scuffed and scratched. It was 'well seasoned' by me a well seasoned superintendent.

Just joking around. I am sure the new C P drill will make short work of punching out the holes needed to accept Dave`s prescription for annoying rocks. I am conscious of that, so far no problems, I purposely avoid light and short stroke, high frequency rock drills as these are a shocker to hang onto, preferring a heavy long stroke drill, back the air pressure off a bit and add extra padding on the handles. Also not a smoker so circulation is good, this seems to be a contribution problem to hand issues.
