Latest sales indicate Quo at 130m worldwide. One of the best LIVE bands to come out of the UK. The lack of promotion & US airplay back in their prime cost Quo in the States. Considering the stature of the band it’s unbelievable how unknown they are over there compared to the rest of the world. Today there is a lot of interest on KZbin. Their back catalogue is awesome, checkout albums from Piledriver (1972) to Quo Live (1976). Also Quo live at Milton Keynes (1984) NEC arena (1982) & Download (2014).

'Pictures of Matchstick Men', was the only success they had in the States, back in 1968. They tried through the 70's to get recognition afterwards, having changed from a, 'pop band', in their early days to a fully fledged rock boogie band in 1970, but felt it was taking up too much time, (and money), to try and break through, due largely to the lack of air-play on the radios over there. They became legendary in their native UK, as well as the rest of Europe and Australia, at least until the mid 80's. In fact, this was their last live performance before they broke up with this particular line-up. They reformed about a year later with a new bassist and drummer, and kept going with their own inimitable style of boogie rock and roll music. They continued to stay on the fringes of the charts but never really made it into the top 10 again. As a live performer, they were second to none and always have a laid back attitude to their performances and a happy sound that was universal for anyone who wanted to listen. They were criticised throughout their history as only knowing 3 chords. Which 3 was never iterated upon, of course, as it was a jibe made by those who didn't know what they were talking about. They had a good sense of self-deprecating humour even to the point of naming one of their later albums, 'In Search of the Fourth Chord.' They had a reunion of the, 'frantic four', in 2013, where they all performed together for the last time. Sadly, 2 of them have passed away since, with only one original member left. The band still performs, but it's likely that 2024 will be their last year performing live.

Status Quo are one of the biggest selling rock bands of all time with over 120 million sales worldwide despite very little exposure in America. To put that into perspective and figures which may astound you, some of the biggest rock acts, well known in America, have the following sales: Metallica 125m, Bon Jovi 120m, The Who 100m, Led Zeppelin 100m, Deep Purple 100m, Neil Young 85m (inc. CSNY & CSY) Black Sabbath 75m, Judas Priest 50m, CCR 50m, Heart 35m, Lynyrd Skynyrd 28m, Foo Fighters 27m. Rockin all over the world, a John Fogerty song, has sold to date, over 500k copies in UK, 900k copies worldwide! They have had more hit UK albums than any other artist apart from the Rolling Stones. They hold the record for more hit singles than any other band, both international and British in UK chart history, being the tenth best-selling group of all time on the UK Singles Chart with 7.2 million sales. Not bad for an "unknown" band from England!

Hey Dave, Status Quo were huge in the 70’s and 80’s. They were a dirty rock n roll band that used the 3 chord, 12 bar blues style and just kept on rocking. Their 70’s stuff was fantastic, songs like Roll Over Lay Down and Deeper and Down as well as Whatever You Want. Check out their album called Piledriver and Live 1977, real pin you to the wall rock n roll. They were a good time band, toured hard and partied hard too. When Oasis came out certain other bands (Blur) likened them to Status Quo because of their 3 chord approach to rock n roll which prompted Noel to wear a Quoasis t-shirt, the perfect response 😂
@lalazar279 ай бұрын
Oasis is my favourite band for very personal reasons and their massive live performances up until early 2000s, and I really didn't understand why I came to like Status Quo so much, but now I can find some relation between the two with your comment and I'm loving it, so thank you. Rock n roll was never a complicated thing.

Apart from the Rolling Stones, Quo have spent more time on the UK album charts than any other artist, sold more records than The Who and are one of the best live bands ever, of any genre. Only ever had one hit in USA, Pictures of matchstick men, which was used in Men In Black 2. Never made it in America thanks to greedy promoters and radio stations. Rockin All Over The World is one of their biggest selling singles (almost 1 million sold), written by John Fogerty of CCR.

If you happen to react to more Quo, you might start to think that Rick Parfitt is the best Rhythm Guitarist ever. He is really tight with that. Quo have done so much and have a very loyal fan base. They have some criticism for only focusing on 3 chords but occasionally they do something different and show that using mostly 3 chords isn't through lack of talent. They even released one called "In Search of the Forth Chord" to show how they don't take themselves too seriously.

Consider this, Quo tickets are now starting to come out for the 2024 European tour and all 15 venues in Germany are sold out, the UK tickets go on sale next week, a band that started in the early '60s and have toured every year from the beginning, what other band could match that.
