Excellent sounds. You manage to make the Pro 2 sound completely different from mine! I've done a couple of similar videos which DSI shared on their FB page and get a lot of plays, but it's like a different instrument. Shows its versatility. You get a great stereo width in the sounds, which I think is vital for engagement.

Interesting how many demos aren’t using the 16-lane modulation sequencer at all, as the sequencer is the heart and soul of the synth. It can do these kind of very pretty ‘normal’ synthesizer tones (nice work btw!). But also, there’s a whole universe of wild bubbly organic goodness in there, just beyond that door marked ‘play’

Honestly, I AB'd this against a Prophet 6, and as much as I wanted to be absolutely in love with the P6 (I had worked for years with a Prophet 600, and have always wanted a Prophet Five), I came back to this... It really sounds incredible.
@DanielDavissynthman6 жыл бұрын
The P12 ans Pro2 have so much more functionality and tonal capabilities than the P6 or OB6. Really, the P12 and Pro2 are a sound designer's dream.

I did the same, The prophet 6 sounded great but i didn't really feel it but the PRO 2 I can make track after track, its sounds awesome and very versatile.
@marvinkmooneyoz6 жыл бұрын
I sold the Toraiz AS-1, which is basically one voice of the prophet, when i saw a great deal on a used PRO 2. The Pro 2 is obviously better overall, great sound, lots of functions to shape sound. But the VCO's of the AS-1 were really good to my ears, the oscillator drift, shape, and detune don't get it in the same territory. No regrets on my part, but i do have to get something VCO to feed into it to supplement the digital oscillaotrs.
@thesearethesuns6 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, the Korg Volca keys, for a VCO synth, is really a nice deal for the price, and the unison mode and some slight oscillator detuning yields some great, thick, and punchy analog sounds.
@DaveDaves5 жыл бұрын
I think the Pro-2 'suffers' from its virtue(s) being too complex for the easy hype that others generate and it's not the king of any standard category like monosynth, polysynth, all-analog, DSI or Oberheim remake etc....to me it's the inclusion (and awesome routability) of the DUAL filter types which I could never choose between (P6 vs OB-6) and the special x4 VCA parapolyphonic mode. The synth cannot be simply described in terms of what it's 'best' for or 'sounds like' and while the Pro-1 is a vintage classic, that appeals probably to hxc vintage analog fans more than anyone else and the Pro-2 is innovative over replicating its forebearer, its hybrid digital/analog circuitry is aimed at sound design potential above analog purity.

I am listening again to this. Great tones! FYI, I just came from a vid of sounds of a "nameless modern digital vector synth". I can almost talk myself into believing that the "NMDVS" sounds good, and then I listen to this. The real thing. There is no comparison! Those little cheap digi synths (there are several) are really like fast food. Quick and dirty and cheap, but no real sonic nutritional value. Pure sugar. Bad for your teeth and bad for your music. Thanks for this great programming. And especially thanks to Dave Smith, who is a true genius!

really nice. IT's important that there's demos like this from people who can really rock this thang. I almost got the Pro2 - I ended up with the JDxA which is hilariously similar but different to the Pro2 - both have four notes to play with on analog parts, but see Roland really fuked us over because to use the entire digital side u must use this horrible little 2-line LCD and the - / + buttons. Dave Smith really wanted to make the Pro2 a real comprehensive but accessible UI I see, idk if I would trade my JDxA for a Pro2 but I def want both. I wonder what my music would have been like if I went the PRo2 direction.... (my custom sounds you can find searching Souniques by Dave Daves, a different YT profile).

Pro2 and peak are the 2 synths that never left me. Not much overlap. Pro2 has a little more clarity and punch, peak is great when you need the true polyphony and sounds a bit darker/organic. The wavetables and filters are completely different on both. The extra filter on the pro brings alot of possibilities.

2 Filters , 4 Oscillators ! and BBD delays with Panning function.
@johnnyraphaell6 жыл бұрын
Yeah the filters are great and the wavetable morphing adds richness too. With the serial parallel modulation of the too filters you can bring in sizzle without opening the filter. I love this sinth!! The paraphonic mode is very cool because you can have another osc shape per finger xP that adds randomness. ;) and 4 osc are enough its like a guitar. There you have „a voice“ per string. So it never has too many voices going on and doesnt mess up your sound.
@DaveDaves5 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyraphaell yea specifically its 2 filters each bring a very dfiferent sonic flavor to the game (one more like the classic DSI/Curtis affair & the other like the Oberheim state-varriable buisness) and really flexible serial/paralell routing between them - the rev2 doesn't come close to this territory of scuplting via resonant filter. Oh, and, using the digital oscillators with 'character' and the more waveshapes, its got a lot more fodder to work w right from the beginning compared to the Prophet/Mopho line.

@alphacodesynth4 жыл бұрын

@davidseaward93594 жыл бұрын
I was just watching this (excellent demo) and thinking the same thing. I always got the vibe that the Pro-2 was overlooked entirely, especially because analog monosynth lovers don't want the DCOs (no surprise Pro-3 is 2x VCO except for the wavetable osc which can't be!). To me, 3 note polyphony isn't nearly as playable as four (four allows left hand root + triad chord or 4-note chords), that's why I sold the Volca FM. I was hoping that following the Pro-2 this feature would catch on for other synths ...
@indiefilmcomposer4 жыл бұрын
motoboy6666 As much as I appreciate the pro 3 evolution with analog and the OB filter, I have to agree ....the pro 2 has some of the prophet 12 architecture and 4 voices , it’s special and distinct ...from the pro 3 demos which are mostly aggressive and heavy sounding pro 3 doesn’t seem to have its own sound so much as the pro 2 does, ....I had the pro 2 and sold it and I think I will try it again before buying the pro 3, I have moog matriarch and a matrix brute and OB 6 module so I have analog covered ...I have one space in my studio for a synth so let’s see what happens ....👍......update ......trying the pro 3, it can do much more than aggressive .....more to come
@jazzjeffjazzjeff4 жыл бұрын
I think the Pro 3 is another incredible instrument from the great Mr Smith. The 2 and 3 are so different! I'd love to own them both, as they each have a unique tonal pallet. They both have great sounds, incredible modulation, great build quality. Neither one is a polysynth, so the 3 voice of 4 voice issue is not a thing to me. But both are just beautiful instruments, the kind you buy and keep for a lifetime!

I sold my Pro2 after 4 years, to buy a pro3. After 2 month of possesion, i swapped the pro3 to the buyers pro2. Two month later the buyer wanted the pro 2 back. I said no. Never ever again i will give the pro2 away. The analog vco of the 3 is nice, but the 4osc on the 2 is nicer. I hooked an analog vermona mono lancet to the input for a 5th osc. Now i feel i have a pro-3 on steroids.

God I wish I got into hardware synths earlier, missed these only just. I got the pro 3 and always feel like I want a 4th oscillator, and digital options for all of them. Don't really care for sequential ladder filter, only use the state variable and the 4 pole. There's some still on market but at extreme prices, just as much if not more than as a new rev2 16. Although judging by some of the comments here, maybe it's worth it grabbing one? Form factor seems a bit better too. The pro3 is needlessly chunky.
