This is the third episode of a new series where I will be working on these two houses from start to finish. the goal for this series is to cover everything carpentry related, from framing the entire house, to doing the lock up, fix, fit off, decks and pergolas
We finally have some decent progress as we frame up the first batch of walls on this build!

Nice work Dave! Im a builder in NZ, the only differences I can see is here in NZ they make us put DPC on all bottom plates and between all timber and steel, and I usually see the nogs lined up, but staggering them is stronger as you mentioned. We are moving away from steel strapping and most things are proprietary hold down hardware. Even our trim studs get lumberlok screws in them, negating the need for straps. Keep up the great work and very interesting to watch. Great hustle from you and its good to see the high goal setting, makes a big difference.

DPC was my first thought also. I’m a chippy in Aus and always used DPC for external walls

Your channel is great dave, good onya for sharing your adventures. My only concern is around your use of PPE. Ive got a paslode framer, they are very loud. using them without ear protection has gotta have long term consequences for your hearing. Using ear and eye protection with power tools is a bit inconvenient but its a must in my opinion.

Are you smacking gun nails through the bottom plate into the slab as a temporary fix?

why frame windows on the floor? what if the concrete is dipping or out of level. won’t that reciprocate in the level of the sill??
@tomtcy
@tomtcy Ай бұрын
The window stud openings are generally slightly bigger than the window reveals, hence the concrete being out of level can be offset by packing the openings to ensure levelness of windows.

@@mattyk82 I’m in Sydney, like 80-90% of carpenters here use this brace. Dave is from Melbourne and I tend to see they use hoop iron most of the time

@@xXiiBetI’m in Melbourne as well. I don’t do a lot of framing these days I reckon about 10 years ago we used to use this type of bracing a lot but I haven’t seen it in a long while here.
