You should be putting bows down when doing a wall with bracing in it. Then you don't need to plane where the bracing is and chances are, you don't need to pack much during lockup.

Umm really "screwed" up by your blocking. Especially where you stop the ones on the right side. That blocking doesnt look right. Okay composite decking main issue to me isnit no structural issue so that big gap in that stringers spacing is umm. And a k oist back does look like it will support the ends a batten fown the middle and the continuing decknboards..

But you can get a great quality $40 hammer with the magnet and save yourself some back pain by the extra reach to pick up dropped nails. That's the reason I like the magnet. (Also, you have a lot more accuracy using your fingers to set your nail)

I'm only 4 minutes in and this scares the shit out of me as a potential home buyer. Why are there still surprises and improvisation when we've been building houses for centuries now? Moreover, why are carpenters just having a go at re-engineering things on the fly?

Hey Dave or any chippys out there, why are they putting a second timber on the top plates, just curious to know what it’s for 😊
@DaveDoesCarpentry
@DaveDoesCarpentry 4 күн бұрын
It’s to support the posies/trusses that sit on top of the wall. If a posie landed on a single top plate between two studs, we’d need to block underneath the top plate to support the posie.

Not bad. Only thing I saw as a potential variable changer was the saws had different blades. Different brands and styles cut better or worse then others. Would've liked to see that comparison with the same blade on all of them

14:14 is the foam just for expansion? 16:49 Is he just smashing concrete nails through the timber straight into the slab? Will that hold even for the vertical load?

Hi mate, just done 176 l/m of 75mm Hebel. There is a useful adhesive tool they sell to scoop and apply the adhesive to generally the FIXED panel; and it is way faster and uniform with the application of the product than what you were doing. Hebel is awesome and fast for what it does. Cheers mate all the best.
