I came backwards into Daveed Diggs' career, only seeing and hearing Hamilton for the first time with the film, then discovering clipping and his solo work. So I'm now going back and watching all these interviews and appearances for the first time. He's really one of the most interesting celebrities with unreal talent. One thing I notice, though, is that he really shines when he's being asked good questions, so cheers to KC Ifeanyi for being an exceptional interviewer. You asked great questions, and you actually listened to the answers, both of which are rare skills.

I'm living basically the same life as you currently with that timeline 🤣🤣 Daveed is now probably one of my top 5 rappers of all time just, from clipping. alone, and seeing that he's been this insane for more than the last decade (him and Rafael) is just so dope to see. Became a fan also from Hamilton. I have seen some of the episodes that he was in on blackish but I am really not a fan of that show, just can't get into it, its too stereotypical for me and just down right annoying. Daveed shines in Hamilton and I definitely see why he won the Tony Award.

Seriously had to look up what a capoeirista was. o.o Brazilian martial art. Cool. I WANT THESE EXTRA SCENES RELEASED! Someone give me a DVD on this movie. I need Director's Cut. Nooo, this story is definitely heavy. The first time I saw it, It was "Monster" that lured Jess?! I'd never heard them say what piece it was, really. But "Monster" IS monster. Both the poem and the rap Rafa does are insane. Though the poem version is even heavier than this movie. Rafa is definitely some kind of beautiful monster. That boat scene was SO subversive. Cuz cuz. xD! I'm wondering where this movie sugar-coated, let alone OVER sugar-coated. It felt very, very real for me, personally. I'm excited to hear clipping. is coming out with a new album! I adore "Splendor and Misery." And various other songs from their other albums. Hamilton seriously was a friend project, wasn't it? Daveed has said several times that he only got in the musical BECAUSE he knew Lin, had known Lin for years through Freestyle Love Supreme. Said if he'd actually had to audition, there's no way he'd have gotten the part. But Lin, being as talented as he is, has a lot of other talented friends and connections. So Hamilton just WORKS. Also, as regards Rafa and Diggs, #DreamsWithFriends. It's funny, but I never noticed that Hamilton never did parades or the like. possibly because the shows got other productions to perform. I don't think "Dear, Evan Hansen" is any less for having done parades, but I'm happy Lin and co. kept Hamilton pure. It's so interesting that Daveed has such respect for Ryan Coogler, who apparently doesn't code switch for anyone. Lately, I've seen several teachers that are praising young, Black students and acknowledging that African American Vernacular English is a legitimate form of language, but are emphasizing the need to teach them the standard version, teaching them how to code switch "when they need to" to successfully function in today's America. But the idea that we normalize Black English, make everyone comfortable with all kinds of Blackness... I'm very much here for that. Bless him for championing other creatives that haven't been given the chance. I'd like him to get back to some rap songs, too. I'd love more of him and Rafa, him with clipping., and just him, to be honest. I didn't know he met Utkarsh through FLS. O.O I knew he met Lin, Tommy Kail, and Chris Jackson through it. But wow. #DreamsWithFriends, for real.

I liked the movie but it honestly didn't feel that deep to me. Not that it may be thought-provoking but it really didnt hit me emotionally except for the increasingly skilled use of freestyle verse to amplify the emotional point of the scene. Also, I couldn't buy Diggs as any type of "tough guy" who was misread, especially not with how he sounds like a nerd. I wouldn't take him too seriously in the real world. Sorry not sorry. And yeah yeah Jon Jones talks like that too and he would demolish me... anyway wtf am i still typing for *lights joint**hits joint

What hit me emotionally were the themes of white privilege throughout the film. Miles tries so hard to be ghetto. Yes he grew up in the hood, but he still feels the need to overcompensate because he's white. Yet even when both he and Collin commit the same crime, only Collin goes down for it, so Miles' white privilege still saves him in the end no matter how foolish he acts. Miles is the true thug here, yet society doesn't acknowledge it and he isn't given the credit he so desperately wants for it. Collin just wants to live his life, but he will always pose a threat to his surroundings just because he is black. I think a huge turning point in the film was when Miles fought that hipster black kid. I think that's when Collin started seeing the white privilege too. Here was his best friend destroying another fellow member of the black community just because he could, and he will still get away with it. That had to break something inside of him.

I think that’s the point though. The irony is that Miles (Casal) is the more aggressive one, while Colin (Diggs) is more soft-spoken and responsible, but he’s the one paying for it while Miles doesn’t have to answer for anything. I think that it shows the commentary on white privilege more than anything. This is one of my favorites, but I can definitely see where you’re coming from with how you feel
