Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy wargame developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Look, if you know from the start that you're going for Join the Unions, you can sort of preempt the supply problems by building railways in Siberia all the way to the Urals, while Russia is still dealing with a bad case of the Wermacht. It's not exactly an unforeseeable problem, you know...

It's also very good because some (all?) Of the communist focuses that reduce the effect of the great depression don't have timers before you can take the next one, so what you can do is start doing the historical focuses to reduce the great depression, then start down the communist path focuses to reduce it further before the timer ends, then switch back to historical, allowing you to end the great depression early, and stay democratic.

@@pannik_lucas it was a liquidity crisis ie there wasnt enough money in the ecomy for people to buy goods and services resulting in a collapse of people being able to afford stuff like rent:-homless farmers and repossessed farms. goods:- so retail ecomy tanked and small businesses went under as customers didnt have money and unemployment went through the roof :- no money to pay workers. what was needed was a large influx of money. You could print it off in HUGE quanitiies but that causes inflation and a host of other issues. wrecks your middle class see weimar germany for example. So what the solution WAS, was to get gold and specie from other countries ie make them buy american goods for money you can use in the domestic ecomy. What FDR did instead? he sterilised the gold inflows into the economy and made the great depression last until ww2 FINALLY dragged them out of it. Its ironic that hes remembered as a great president, when he was arguably the 2nd worst ever. First being the guy from 1856-1860 who guaranteed the american civil war would happen.

@@DaveFeedBackGaming Really? I played the game just today, and I was allowed to join the unions WITHOUT being at war with Germany, leading the the Germans just having to withdraw without doing anything. We were both at war with Japan, so maybe that circumvented it.

There Should be a Feature even in historical Games, when you Take an alt-history Path, big Nations or Nations around you are Influenced by that. For example, usa goes communist, than Canada and Mexico go fascist so to Balance Out the game.

Hey Dave, A game mechanic I never hear you talk about is stealing technology blueprints. Maybe because of the RNG nature so it's not appropriate for your guides. It also requires 3 spys, ideally 4. I've recently started doing it and it seems OP, like getting 1942 computing machine in 1939 for 150 days of research OP. This was with only 3 spys, could do even better with 4 (italy can get 4 early) It seems less good with naval / military tech as you often just get small bonuses. Would love to see you test or talk about spy operations.

The problem with the US spending money today is that they have no one watching what the money allocated is used for. So, they hand money to a state to improve roads and bridges. Something like billions of dollars. After a set amount of time nothing has changed, and the money is nowhere to be found and the roads and bridges are still in terrible shape. Also bills purposed in the house and then sent to the senate. Today's legislation they use fancy words to describe the bill like "relief" or "infrastructure" and only about 10% of the purposed money will actually go towards that. One of the relief bills during covid gave Egypt 300 billion dollars for military equipment which at that time they bought exclusively from Russia the one before that mentioned cannabis over 70 times. The infrastructure bill as part of the "build back better" plan only had about 10% of the funds go towards infrastructure. It's not like the interstate and highways act at which billions went towards building our interstate system that money was used by the feds to build it and they built allot of it during the 50s and 60s.

Just ownership. You still have to garrison the USSR, which is a nightmare... Unless you release the Soviets' constituent countries as your puppets, which will help shorten the front line. American Komi, anyone?

For some reason when you go communist as USA you get to keep almost all of the generals in the Civil War(it's insane to think Eisenhower, Patton, etc would have ever supported communism but w/e) So, that plus the manpower bonuses pretty much make it always better than going fascist. I wish paradox would make a non aligned path for the USA to allow them to voluntarily become a monarchy if Britain goes non aligned, and then form the United Kingdom of America. This way you the player can play it instead of only having them as a puppet when playing as Britain.
