I never realized until I saw these videos, how much control Maynard has over his vocals. Even when he screams, he makes it seem easy--it all comes from inside. That probably why he still sounds the same live today.

Im a decade and half too late, but id say control is only a part. Much of it is having a vocal range. which he achieved by that screaming. Or just singing constantly. I used to sing in a grindcore and a punk band, and can change my voice, but it works out your chords allowing them to expand and contract even further. You can achieve a crazy vocal range even if you dont know how to sing professionally, just by working out your vocal chords. And you do this by screaming at the top of your voice. And I dont mean just scream scream grunt screech, for longer and louder each time. This will work out your vocal chords, cause its a muscle like anything else. When you work itout, it gets stronger, in the case of our voice, it gets a wider range from lower to higher notes.

@ewloffredo23 Hes not the same live today as he was back then vocally. In fact they hardly play Ticks and Leeches because that song puts massive strain on his vocals. He ended up damaging his vocals when he recorded the song for Lateralus. Still a great live band though
