Thank you Dave for the super nice comparisons! It seems that the 5pro shines in "normal" conditions. I find it striking that in the very low light conditions at the end of the video, the light enhancement of the 5pro is really at the expanse of the stability... Super work, I was waiting for a side by side test for these cameras. I will stick to the 4 which is already a fantastic toy.

It checked a lot of boxes on paper, but the BB is VERY low and there is no protection on the downtube/bb area leading to frame strikes and failures.

Thank you for also comparing the dlog-m on both cameras as I dont like the normal profile look at all. On first glance the action 5 looks like a small increment then to me since there a parts on the OA4 where either the signs or other light rays hitting objects blown out which are perfectly exposed on the 5. Maybe not that groundbreaking how its advertised but since I'm still running a gopro11 which is extremly powerful with the labs firmware it may be time for an update.

Good review, I love my 4 and will not be upgrading it at this time. Maybe if I start making money!! I love these cameras, they blow GP out of the water. I shoot in Normal color 10 bit and just do a small adjustment in Davinci. Maybe I can make a Lut and use that to speed things up. With high contrast forest stuff I up open the shadows and reduce the highlights, I also warm it up a bit and bump up the colour by 5, quick and easy. I just downloaded the lut and will do some testing this week with D-Log and Normal 10 bit to see if it's worth the time. Cheers

I agree with you! I recently got the 4 and have been testing the D Log vs the Normal color, and to be honest I dont find it to look nice just with the Lut when you record on D Log, you still need to color grade, today I think i got some pretty good shots with the Normal and some slight color grades just like you with the shadows, highlights, a little color boost and temp!

Great video. With the side by side with the cameras, it all comes down to settings, especially shutter speed and ISO. The OA5 looks cartoony in some aspects and gives a bit of a halo when the green is exposed and the OA4 gives more detail in lowlight and gives a more natural look. What trails were you riding? Miss my North Shore lol

I haven't. I might give it a try if I get one. I like the motion of being mounted on the bars. I bought a cheap $80 camera from Amazon and it wasn't too bad.

why is DJI doing exactly the same thing as Insta360... "DJI sent me this camera but..." Everyone knows these specifications and the guidelines that KZbinrs receive. I find it sad... your communities buy the stuff and are disappointed in the end. The camera with the CMOS chip performs worse than the Action4. Bitrate is one of the biggest problems, even with the update it is a maximum of 60. But at 26mph the footage becomes muddy, especially at the edges.

I know you can't control the weather but I think it's funny that one of the enhanced features of the 5 Is its ability to deal with high contrast situations, and you're out there riding in arguably one of the least challenging lighting situations I've ever seen in a MTB video 😂

yeah the exposed sunset or dappled light through the forest situations are the two I most often find myself in when riding, and Gopro fails miserably in them, but not so badly I am going to jump to a competitor without seeing a test

You completely ignored the distortion the v4 imposeses on the overhead view, "splaying" the tree trunks out in a sort of a fisheye view! The v5 keeps tree trunks realistically vertical. When it leans with the bike around turns, the trees lean accordingly in the turn but are not splayed out like v4!

@@merecl I didn't feel the need to have to spell out the full name of the cameras. V4 and V5 if is plain enough. All *your* tests were accurate and true and I understand them. But the FOV from V4 is *not* the same. You will see the that the tree trunks are *not* parallel with one another in V4, whereas in V5 they are. In V5 you see a natural forest with vertical, parallel tree trunks whereas in V4 the tree trunks spread apart giving a POV of being in something like the bottom of a fish bowl. I stand by what I've said. I'm sorry if you or others don't like it. It's not an insult or intended to be one. *Anyone* can measure how the trunks spread apart in V4 POV.

Because that's what "log" color profile does. It sets everything to flat to allow the user to have a wide range of color grading options in post editing. All log profiles in all action cameras will have flat colors.
