Davek Umbrella Unboxing & Review! Worth it?

UPDATE:
I finally got in touch with Davek thanks to one of my viewers and we chatted about the warranty concerns and they were able to send me a replacement umbrella to replace the one that was damage or broke from the storm. Thank you Davek!
I had some feedbacks and suggestion on how they could possibly make the repair/ return process maybe better, check out the video to find out and let me know what you guys think!

Some new feature of their new umbrella compared to the old one are :
The frame on the Davet Solo has been revised with a higher density fiberglass and redesigned hinges. This redesign has made this model about 30% more wind resistant-the most wind resistant folded umbrella we’ve ever seen (of comparable size).
The frame for the Davek Duet is the same, but the outer closure strap was changed to nylon because the original leather strap was too heavy for the canopy.

A company that requires the customer to pay for shipping when seeking warranty services does not stand behind its products. It implicitly means that they do not have confidence in their products. If the company actually had true confidence in their products they would be sure that only a very small percentage of their products would fail so that the total shipping costs incurred by the company if they paid for shipping themselves would be minimal. I generally do not trust warranties. Nowadays it is only lip service. But if the customer has to pay for shipping then the product is automatically out of contention as it signals that the company does not have confidence in their own product.

I've been using Davek umbrellas for years....I mean since like 2008....I don't recall my umbrellas having a leather strap to hold it together. And I have used the 50% off replacement when I lost my first one.

Just throwing away our second Davek umbrella. NOT IMPRESSED!! Someone gave me one as a gift - that one I could not close easily!! And you want to be able to close an umbreall quickly and easily when entering a building or a car - not struggle with it - pushing and pushing, trying to get it closed - and getting wet in the process as having to hold the umbrella down to be able to use more force to finally get it closed. Davek replaced that umbrella and the new one, using it the second or third time, one of the ribs broke. And no, I am not a person that is hard on things. NOT IMPRESSED!!

I'll never buy anything from this company again. Not only was my umbrella quite expensive it was also of poor quality! It got bent out of shape in light to moderate winds and when I finally tried to reshape one of the ribs very carefully it snapped like a whimsy little twig and the umbrella was history. I now have purchased a German made 'Knirps' and this thing is built like a tank in comparison for about the same money.

I bought the Davek Traveler because of its size for .. well travel. When it arrived I was very surprised how thick it is in closed position. Not as easy to pack it away! The next surprise came at the first try using it in rain: it leaks! I bought a few Knirps and Dopplers for myself and for the family, and they works flawlessly for years + they are cheaper and lighter. You can even find videos on youtube of these brands tested in the BMW windtunnel.

Umbrellas are rubbish in windy rain. A waterproof urban poncho makes so much more sense. It can't break and it's sturdy with straps.

It still works and feels stronger than regular umbrellas but I would say its up to your budget and how often you plan on using it.

Paul - it sounds like the rod up your butt must have a rod up its butt. I wouldn't trust some corporate ass to tell me anything truthful. I like this video.
