Just a quick look at the EZUHF Jr transmitter module and how it compares to the regular one.
8-1-2016 Update:
I did recently got an RF meter and tested the outputs. The can has a little more power than the module. The can is about 600mw while the JR module is about 400mw. The can of course is better for mounting on a pole and you may rig a repeater using a rx for your brew of radio to avoid being tethered to the pole.
The EZUHF JR module has the advantage of being able to plug into the bay of some FrSky Taranis radios but has a little less power than the EZUHF external box(can).

This EzUHF is perfect for me. I don't want to fly 2-7 miles away, can't see that far. Just a little more than 1/2 mile with the Tanaris X9DP. I bought the EzUHF 8-channel Diversity Receiver ( the one with two antennas). My question is the positioning of the antennas? I'm thinking vertical or somewhere in between but not horizontal. Maybe one up the other down? What's your input?

Newport Bill Low power saves battery power and reduces interference with other RF equipment. The EZUHF TX module is a long range RC control system that is proprietary thus will only work with EZUHF receivers. It's similar to DragonLink or Open LRS,

Yes as long as the OSD RTL switch is on channel 1-8 because is within bounds of +/-100. Just put the switch in RTL position and then press the button on the EZUHF Transmitter for two seconds and it will remember the switch setting.

Hello, I'm trying to use a 3s lipo to power up my EZUHF but is it normal that the electronic card of the EZUHF heats quickly (a few seconds) ? And is it normal that the voltage of my lipo 3s is 12.5V please ?
@DaveMerc

Question. I'm starting to get into LRS. I understand how the EzUHF works and the frequencies it uses. But what about the FPV setup? I supposed you'd use a 1.3Ghz transmitter... But what transmitter to get range that would keep up with the EZUHF? You need a ground station and directly antenna, like a Yagi or something, right?
@DaveMerc
@DaveMerc 9 жыл бұрын
Danny Cruz Range is always a variable and I have not done any range checking myself.I use a 1.3G set on 1258mHz with 800mw of power. That will get you good strong signal that will go the distance. The draw back to 1.3G is that there are only 2 usable channels in the US, 1258 and 1280, and it requires a HAM license which I have already. I use a ground station with a patch antenna with a monopole on the plane and take out for miles. If you had a helical or a Yagi you could reach much further. I would suggest a diversity video receiver with a CP for close in and helical for distance, but that is just what I have heard works well.
@DannyCruzCreations
@DannyCruzCreations 9 жыл бұрын
***** Hi, I have a HAM license. I acquired it a few months ago when I started flying 5.8ghz. I've only been flying multirotors on 5.8ghz with the standard IRC 600mW 5.8 VTX with Dominator V2s - Pretty much the standard setup for small multirotors. However, I've been more and more curious about LRS. The EZUHF seems simple enough. Getting a 1.3Ghz VTX is simple enough as well. The tricky bit is the ground station portion. I wonder if I should simply start off with a 1.3 module for my Dominator V2 goggles and put a 1.3 antenna straight on the goggles and do a range check to see how far I can go. Maybe that will keep me satisfied for a while. If range testing with that setup doesn't work at that great, I can sell the module and build the ground station. Over here there's a lot of open desert I could fly. There is also a lot of coastline that would allow me to fly, say a wing, along the coast for a long distance, while still keep line of sight for the signal.

+Danny Cruz Make sure to use a notch filter on your Lrs transmitter antenna. Almost all Lrs systems are known to spit out tons of interference on bands other than the intended 433mhz, especially 1.3ghz. Also make sure to use notch filters and not high/low pass filters as they often reduce the range of your LRS without even cutting down on the interference itself.

Good question. I believe the UHF 433 MHz control does require a HAM license, you would also need a HAM License for 1.2, 1.3, 2.4 and 5.8 GHz analog video. If you have a drone that uses WiFi control and WiFi video such as 5.8 or 2.4 then no HAM needed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amateur_radio_frequency_allocations

Good explanation sir. I want to run the R/C controller away from the EZUHF tx, I have a 6 foot trainer cable that will allow me to stand (or sit in the van with a monitor) a bit away from the EZUHF. I considered the JR style module for my XP9303 that I'm using as the controller, but I had battery power considerations in powering both the R/C controller, and the EZUHF from the tx battery. I wired in a 3s 1300mAh pack into the XP9303, hoping it won't burn up =/. It powers up, and I left it on for a while to see if it would let the smoke out. So far, so good heh. I almost sold off all my EZUHF stuff until I saw your vid on setting up the utility program to actually work for both firmware updates, and programming the devices.... THANK YOU ! =).

From a guy that has always used the metric, it was funny. Anyways, 2.7 miles is like 4.4 km, so you can correct it in the video, and 300 km is like 186 miles wich you understand how bazzeld i was to think this little thing would go so far. I prefer EzUHF over DL. I do not use the stock nor Diamond type gain antennas, those antennas are what we refer to as 'unbalanced' and can be prone to noise and interference as opposed to 'balanced' dipoles. I DIY and tune my dipoles and use them both on the Rx and Tx side. I used both the Junior module as well as the metal can version with equally good results. As with any LR system, a good Failsafe is a must to improve recovery in case something goes wrong. These are hobby grade radios and being that are not 100% perfect. The same goes for DL.

the biggest issue with a "can" version of a EzUHF transmitter is that it's not SBUS capable unlike JR style one which is. The thing is ImmersionRC refuses to release an SBUS firmware for the external module for some reason even though the unit could be connected right to the SBUS signal output pin on a RC the way the JR module can be. By the way the "can" module is sold with an appropriate cord. Strange company, strange products, strange business.

ImmersionRC is the company that makes both EzUHF and EzUHF JR brand names used to distinguish the different models. JR is generally regarded as the short for junior, and the JR model is an underpowered version of the full EzUHF transmitter. Back in the old days, in addition to walking 20 km through roaring snowstorms to get to school, firstborn sons were often given the same name as their father, but called junior or Jr to denote their position in the family. So yes, it is a brand name, but the module bay on the Taranis and other radios takes XJT, JR and other "style" modules.
