One of the things I appreciate most about Dev is his ability to truly not take himself seriously. Even in the sense of realizing something as simple as "I'm speaking way too quickly because I'm nervous, let me slow it down." People always same the same thing when meeting a lot of celebrities: "Oh they're just so normal and so down to earth!" But, I find that not to be true a lot of times. Dave seems REAL and to me that's the sickest thing of all. Okay I'm done being gushy. Move along :)

I agree with both you and @jotunblod, I appreciate his "realness" but anyone in his position would have an ego trip to some degree. From what I understand about him, he's done the "drugs, sex and rock and roll" thing, enjoyed it for what it was and has grown beyond that. I know you never actually "know" a celebrity as they are in their day-to-day lives, but I'd consider myself lucky to be one of the 75 people he looked forward to seeing at NAMM.

Devy's tuning saved guitar for me. I wasn't progressing at all learning stuff and trying to write in either standard or dropped tunings. I decided to learn some DTB stuff and couldn't do that either until I found out about this completely alien tuning. It just opened this massive door and loads of stuff clicked into place. I'm still rubbish at shredding but that Ziltoid sounding bit at around 11:30 is easy. Thow on some delay and reverb to make it spacey and you can mess around for hours :)

@@Qwerty-ks8dn Genesis is more of a compilation of all the sounds you can expect from the album. But yes, I fear it may be too ambitious. But I prefer him going in that direction than trying to be more commercialized and mainstream
@Qwerty-ks8dn5 жыл бұрын
@@toxendon Normally I would agree with that, certainly true with other top musicians, but in recent years his weakest efforts have been his favourite projects (COC and Ki) whereas projects he considered "pressured into recording" are brilliant (Sky Blue) or good (Transcendence). It's almost as if he prefers the average stuff he makes, while underrating his best. He is very strange that way. He also made a big fuss over Ghost which is not that great, comparatively speaking. I can't predict Empath, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it disappoints somewhat. I am sure it will have some amazing music, but overall it could be yet another hit-and-miss album which he overrated vastly. I am more interested in Moth, to be frank. Empath just seems to be a rehash of his entire career, which would be pointless. Genesis is certainly a rehash, a mosaic of tunes I've heard before from him. Genesis has no emotional depth, it's bombastic in a chewing-gum sort of way. It's nerd prog.
