Fester Plays - BSG Deadlock - My Tactics Explained

Over the past few weeks ive had alot of questyions asked about my tactics and difficulty settings i use during my campaign gameplay.
Whilst we are waiting for the new DLC to land on the consoles i thought i would put this video together to attempt to answer some of the questions that have been asked.

I gave you a like, but honestly, this match was not a good one for showing tactics. The Cylon fleet was weak in offensive capability, half your strength and all the same ships. I'd like to see you play against a much higher point value (stronger) Cylon fleet; one that also uses ECM, cluster bombs, PCM, Scramblers, and Wardrivers, etc. A couple of things that make me wonder why you did what you did and what I would have done, are: 1) Why did you let the Manticore continue forwards on first contact? I would have veered away after the first two Talons were discovered. Knowing that the enemy probably had no missiles, and the Talons were not protected, I would have launched the Manticores nuke right away. 2) Why did you put all your ships on the same horizontal plane and stagger them? My tactic is to put the Atlas right underneath the Jupiter2 allowing the Jupiter's flak to protect the Atlas. The Atlas has very good broadside guns and decent armour. You'd be surprised how effective an Atlas can be. I stack one ship on top of another one. For another example, I would have put one of the Minotaurs under the Minerva and the other Minotaur bringing up the rear with a Viper squadron for protection against missiles. And put the Celestra right beside the Jupiter so it can't be hit by anything other than Raiders that get through. 3) Why didn't you launch fighters at the beginning of the game during set-up? On the first turn they had Raiders on the board while you now had to launch yours. Basically, the enemy had a one turn jump on you. You may want to use a normal Raptor to send in a round about way to the rear of the Cylons as an extra scout. This gives you the option of boarding that lurking Basestar or other mega-capital ship.

Hi There, whilst i agree the Cylon Fleet could have been a much higher point value, the overall attempt of this video was to show the basic tactics that i use when playing this game. The reasons for doing this was i had been asked a lot of questions over the past month about my basic tactics, as well as the difficulty setting i use on my recorded videos. I think its important to point out that everyone has there own tactics and ways of doing things in the game, and, attempting to find that 'middle-ground' that everyone can relate, whether they be new players or experienced players just wanting to see how others play can be difficult. The points you have raised are interesting and its nice to see how others do play the game and what tactics are used. But in answer to the points that you have raised: 1) I allowed the Manticore to continue forwards to allow it to identify all the enemy ships. In my opinion i want all ships identified before i make a decision how i'm going to proceed. When playing i do not like surprises and dont like dealing with possibilities and I have always seen the Manticore as a Scout ships that is 100% expendable. 2) I put all my ships on the same horizontal plane and stagger them for better protection with the battlestar's and find strength in numbers, however you are totally correct that most do under-estimate the power of the Atlas. My Atlas is in position to defend my Celestra which i find is a very important asset. 3) I do not always launch my fighters on my first turn, and will sometimes wait until i have identified the enemy, yes it does potentially provide a risk in doing this. I have used normal Raptors in the game, however find that using Assult Raptors with the paint target option increases the hit accuracy of my ships. For me, using the board function is useless. When Cylons board your ships they are met with an overwelming force of Colonial marines and 99.9% of the time the Cylons are defeated. If we board the Cylons, and indeed when ever i have attempted this i have been defeated by the numbers of Cylons they have onboard. At some point later on I will be doing a more advanced version of this video with a stronger fleet, but for now this was just to show the basic tactics that i use in an attempt to help others get started. @@DaveP8472 Yup, you answered all my questions. You surprised me by answering so quickly. And you're right, everyone has their 'ways' of doing things. However, you and I will differ on one thing; none of my ships are expendable. My Manticores are valuable as scouts and come in handy in the latter half of most of my missions. I never load them with nukes; their normal missiles are handy as harassment. I usually send a Viper squadron for protection because most of the time the Cylons shoot missiles at it and that makes a great decoy to keep missiles away from larger ships. I did an experiment with Raptors a couple of times and boarded 3 of them on a Basestar that was hanging way in the back. Each time the Basestar basically stopped shooting missiles. But I will admit that one Raptor boarding party is useless. And I really like them as back battlefield scouts were ships can't see.

@@BarbosaUral I like to answer everyone thats posts a comment, its just common courtesy. I'm a great fan of needs of the many and will sacrifice a ship if deemed the need to be necessary. But each to their own :-) I did play around with the Raptors but didnt feel they helped in the way i wanted so opted for the Assult Raptor instead. I hope though that we can all learn from what others do to help become better at smashing those frakking toasters! :-)

Viper squadrons are OP. I use them on most attacks

Well, the Empire doesn't consider a small one-man fighter to be any threat, or they'd have a tighter defense - oh, wait…

generally what I like to do is we use the vipers like vespids Go out there and attack anything and everything. generally if I can have at least two battle stars in a group I'll have the smaller ships be above and below the battle star while it lays down flag support That way the ships can fire at the enemy without being fired back

Are you familiar with how the rebellion in the star wars x wing novels deal with the shields on star destroyers? Try doing that against the cylons.

@brettglover135 Hi There, effect and sound was spot on. However, you jump in at start of mission and thats pretty much it, other than Anabasis when you jump in and out a total of 10 times. When the game was first brought out there was no 'pylon' effect from Jupiter (Galactica) but this was updated later on and definately made you feel like it was your fleet. @brettglover135 Not for the Colonials. Some of the Cylon ships had tactical jump which could be used, which then had a cool down. It would have been nice for the Raptor's to have the ability like we saw in the show, bit it was never built into the game 😔

@@DaveP8472 quick question, is it possible to use space battle tactics from other media in Battlestar Galactica deadlock? like for example the Marg Sabl closure maneuver from Star Wars?

@brettglover135 Hi There, there are a number of tactics you can use in Deadlock, however, the Star Wars Marg Sable maneuver wouldnt be possible with the moment aspects of the game.

How are your menus so huge? I'm playing on PS5 and they're tiny, but I haven't seen any settings to lower resolution.

@@laryyan1358 You would be surprised! Alot of people put so much effort into Tactics, especially in this game. I was asked what i do, which is why i did this video. I dont go overboard on tactics as i think it can get to involved and ultimately its a game, it should be fun, relaxing aswell as entertaining! Ive tried in this campaign to go further with the munions by showing different options and their benefits.

My current tactics for an 8000 fleet is 3 Artimus BS in a line, broadside to the enemy with their flak guns running to take care of initial enemy missile salvo's, with one Minotaur on each end of the line of Battlestars, and two Adamants or Mantacores sitting above and slightly behind the battleline to fire missiles over the top of the flak wall, this way I maximize my broadside firepower of the ships. Vipers are set to "guard an area" out front of the battle line to scout, take down incoming missiles, and take care of incoming fighters as soon as they launch so I can kill them quickly and get the fighters to attack the more dangerous capital ships as soon as possible! And then adjust my fleet tactics from there on! ;)

Many players enjoy the tactical aspect of games like this one, while not a hard game; they still want to experience the fun of strategic instead of just going the easy way. Just like some players have fun by ending the game as fast as they can, others enjoy the game by using the tactical aproach and not just mathematical (numerical) "victories"
