So Buddy Emmons is "not" the greatest steel player? Huh? Wow! I guess a myriad of steeler's worldwide, don't know what they are talking about for over 70 yrs. I wonder if David Hartley believes this. Huh?
@stevebilliter4 жыл бұрын
@@MrPatdeeee You know, with so many great, professional steel players around, as well as other instrumentalists, I think it really comes down to personal preference--as in song selection, playing fills, lead riffs, etc. that determines who thinks who is "the best." The same goes for electric and acoustic guitar players, like Albert Lee, Vince Gill, who sings well too, Eric Clapton, JImi Page, etc. Does any particular song "move one's heart with emotion?" That spine tingling effect from a good riff--even Prince, who overdosed not long ago, could flat play lead guitar--he just amazed me one day when he played with a supergroup, including Jeff Lynne, George Harrison's son, on Harrison's, or maybe the Beatles, old song, "While my Guitar Gently Weeps." I heard Buddy Emmons play a few songs one day but I was not overly impressed that he was much better than David Hartley here--or better at all. I'm not hard-core old country, maybe that's why. I think it's just personal preference, not much more than that. I like John Stannard's Telecaster playing a lot, who died in 2015, who was David's bestfriend and playing partner--I thought he was a very good player, specializing in county music along with David. Talk to 10 different music lovers and you'll get 8--10 different answers as to who's the best!

Mr. Hartley I just discovered you and boy I'm so glad that I did. You are by far the best PSG player I've ever listened to. My dad played steel guitar and I listened to him for hours, especially steel guitar rag. I only wished I had discovered you before he passed away last year as he would have so much enjoyed your music. Thank you for being the great talent that you are. I could listen to you for hours on end.
