John Hughey was one of the most sought after steel players in the country. He so craftily plays the ultimate steel solo and the key change on the turnaround just sends chills up my spine. He is missed. Vince personally called John to get him to play on the session in which "Look at Us" was recorded. That lead to 12 years of performing with Vince. Both men are class acts..

Let's not forget John Hughey's UN precedented "back-up" rendition on this classic of Vince Gil. For John is considered to be one of THE greatest steel guitar players to have ever graced its strings. May Jesus rest his dear soul. A friend and mentor.

Little did I know in 2003 that the pedal steel player that night was none other than John Hughey. I played Too Cold at Home by Mark Chesnutt, of course he sounded like the session player on that one. I saw John play Legends a few times after that while I lived in Nashville. His wife was always there watching. They were so friendly.
