Its incredible the variety of complexities we see in the spider mating rituals. Some are quick at it, taking only seconds, while others take so many hours. I wouldn't have an idea without your videos Dave. They're awesome and while respecting the spiders. Such a rewarding experience!

Poor GBB dad... he had to jump for his life!😰 That must have been a big project, getting all of the drumming/waiting filmed, and ALSO making sure, that she didn't eat the little dude. 😯 Let's hope for some lovely offspring from these 2. Absolutely beautiful, always a must to have.

Perfect condition as always, and superb editing from quality footage - all those hours squeezed into 10 captivating minutes. In fact, the quality of your videos just doesn’t compare to any others on KZbin - you’re the David Attenborough of the beastie world. Your success has to be down to experience, dedication, and your utmost respect for the spiders and their preconditioning - you should be ver6 proud of your accomplishments, both of you! Good luck, and spinnerets crossed for the sac! Or “Bum Fingers” as one enthusiast describes them. Thanks for your time and expertise dedicated to creating this invaluable resource for the community - it’s perfect for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike! 👍😉

Im from venenzuela, i have been in the territory of these spiders, and saw them, even inside homes, sometimes living basically like an avicularia, the area is a semi-desert place, very hot during the day and also during the nights, with some exceptions, theu do drink water i do not know if they appreciate too much humidity iside the emclosure, but for sure they rarely get it in their lairs constructed in the wild, sometimes we saw them in the upper corner of a wall, where tha wall meets the ceiling),, many times at the base of a bush, sonetimes at ground level, sometimes a bit higher

So, after looking at weather data from where these guys are from, I found that while the area doesn't get much rain (it looks like a proper desert), the humidity there is often 70-80% except for the warmest parts of the year. I would love to see more pictures/videos of them in the wild. I've only found a couple of videos, and they are really poor quality. I've started keeping mine with a sand drainage layer, under the clay and topsoil mix I use for their substrate. When I fill the water bowl, I let that drainage layer soak in a bunch of extra water. This keeps the humidity pretty high (70%) then I let it dry out to ambient (around 40-50%), but it doesn't make the substrate itself wet, they don't seem to appreciate a wet substrate. I have noticed the increased humidity seems to trigger a molt, as they will almost always time their molt with that spike in humidity.

Yes I have started keeping mine with a higher humidity just like I do my Balfouri 👍

I just find every video extremely interesting. Well done and you can see how beautiful this hobby can be. I have a small point of criticism and that is the microphone quality when it is further away. It overdrives a lot and I often have to turn it down to 10%.

I have come to the conclusion that it’s different device’s that are the problem, most have no problems at all I have tried 3 different mics all worked well my end but still some had problems, I can only think it’s down to your device?

@@daveslittlebeasties Its only in the first 1 or 2 min of the Videos and some friends noticed the overdrive too. I think Its because in the first 1 or 2 min the Mic is far away and when it goes into the main part of the Video, the Mic is closer. I have a pair in cohabitation now. It's been 2 days, the male is pursuing the female, he taps and does his thing, she backs up and taps, he takes a short walk then comes back to her and they do the whole thing again. They are very subtle and they're both showing signs of being interested in each other. Just soooo slow.

Actually, it seems that Dave has more old worlds than new worlds. So, most of his have medically significant venom. Just because a Tarantula most likely, 99% of the time, will not kill you, doesn't mean you won't end up in the hospital, WISHING you were dead, with some symptoms showing up, up to 6 months to a year later.

Dave - All we needed was a little "Maurice Ravel: Bolero" (1928) playing in the background to add to the mood. It starts out quietly in a medium tempo, and then it slowly builds in tempo & volume to a loud & crashing climax. If you time it right, you and the music will finish simultaneously (15 or 16 minutes) but it takes practice...
