Look how bustling it was. Amazing, I remember it so well. Used to love going into the centre. Went in today, busier than it has been for a few years since COVID-19, but so quiet in comparison to this. I like the pedestrianised streets but it really did kill the city centre, they should have only pedestrianised it with a proper plan in place to keep the city centre full of people - free bus travel, or adequate parking (for years there was no car park where they eventually put one in the docks, if that had come 10 years sooner it would have been a big boon to the city centre shops), or just a good park and ride service sensibly priced and going to and from sensible depots with shuttle buses collecting to those depots (the cattle market would have been one such good depot). Just such a mistake to pedestrianise and assume everyone would walk or catch the bus rather than just drive into town, especially as later on the parking became so expensive (relative to the cost and value of the available services in town - why shop in town when there's so many out-of-town big box stores with free parking).

Great nostalgic video. But, are you sure this is 1994? Most of the cars would be 14-16 years old in this video. Could it be late 80s?

Circle Line used to run school services, then took on the Western Travel Gloucester blue buses in a fare war, which only ended when Gloucester blue buses bought up 51%, much later closing them down. The one good thing to come out of that episode was the Number 5 service along Abbeymead Avenue and Metz Way. Existing services along Barton Street were much slower. Love to see the Leyland Nationals and Bristols and Cottrell's buses to the Forest of Dean..
