That's nice to hear, so many unpleasant things are said about the city it's nice to hear you enjoyed your time in Gloucester. Yes, these streets are pedestrianised now.

This is great. Ive lived in Gloucester all my life (47yrs and counting) Its amazing to see this before it all changed. Its not very long ago but the cars look like they are from the 80s in comparison to today.

Paul. I did feel a bit of a fool at the time standing in the street videoing the traffic. Glad l did. Thanks for your comment.

When people actually visited the city centre and there were lots of shops.

I agree elly but it is nicer shop without bothersome traffic. Hope it reflects on what is now in the past. Thanks for your constructive comment.

As someone who only lives a few miles away, and consequently visits Gloucester quite a bit, there does not seem to me to be fewer people than one sees today. The only difference is that people are crammed together on the pavement rather than spread out across the former road - next time you walk up Southgate Street have a good look at how many people there actually are, it is just that they have more personal space. Speaking as a car owner, the improvements in ambience, safety, and reduced pollution are well worth the loss of access to much of the city centre, my only beef is that there is not enough low cost car parking on the periphery - try finding a space in Westgate Street Car Park much of the daytime, this what reduces my desire to shop in Gloucester.

Great footage, Thank you. I lived in Gloucester until i was 12 and when i first returned it had already been pedestrianised and i rather missed the way the city centre used to be..... But looking at this now it reminds us how loud and dirty and smelly it must have been back then. I think it has actually changed for the better.

My parents used to say it was done in the 80s before I was born so thank you for putting this up as I vaguely remember there being traffic lights on the cross (I would have been nearly 5 when they did it)

It's not pedestrianised . with cars, vans, bicycles, and electric scooters using the centre as they see fit, there's absolutely zero police presence in gloucester so no ones sanctioned.
