Loved this song when it came out; who knew that many years later I'd meet MY little Irish Diane and marry her in October 1972 !

Remember listening to all the great 60's songs such as this on our big Phillips radio with the tubes that lit up in the back when I was about 4/5. Must have been a magical time if you had money at least which we did not. That Phillips radio was the only electrical item in the house other than the electric lights.

I remember it was 1964 or 1965 when "Diane" was playing on the P.A. at the local grocery store where my dad and I were shopping. I was 14 or 15, and my dad and I didn't share the same musical tastes. That night, my dad started singing along quietly to "Diane" which I knew well because it had been on the charts. I sang with him, and it was a moment I never forgot. I had not known that my dad knew the song from the Big Band era.

Takes me back to the 60's as a child. Mother would play their songs over and over. It would drown out her mental problems. All seems someone else life now.

Interesting guitars? Martin Dreadnaught bought from Mike Hurst when The Springfields disbanded ... Dusty went solo. I also bought their Gibson Banjo [a beauty] ... that was smashed by thieves who stole all our instruments at Elstree Studios ... including that Martin. Con is playing the first Gibson J60E in the UK ... given gratis by Selmer, the distributors. Brian Epstein bought two for John Lennon and Paul McCartney .... so the legendary J60E jumbo guitars were first used by Con and Dec. As were the, also legendary, Rickenbackers. John's bass was bought with Karl Denver's advice at Waltons in Dublin. BTW, that is one of the rare TV shows where we were actually playing live and the live sound was blended in with the studio orchestra ... highly unusual in the Sixties.

Saw your brother playing in a charity football match for a local football player who had contracted multiple sclerosis here in Barnsley in the early to mid seventies. Always remember him saying "giz a kick" to one of the other players hahaha! He was a great singer and the Batchelors were always on tv and radio when I was a young lad; sadly they seem to have been airbrushed out of entertainment history!

These 3 men are a few years older than the Beatles - and I am sure that the Beatles - in their early melodic period - had heard of the Bachelors - I see how John Lennon ,George Harrison and Paul McCartney sound somewhat like the vocals blend -
