Another great one Rich and unfortunately another sad ending. Davey had mad skills, especially early on in his amateur days. The dementia I imagine was brought on by his long career. RIP to a great fighter

I dont see it as sad. He lived a good life, was successful after boxing. Although dementia could have came from boxing, a lot of people get it who have never stepped into a ring. RIP Davey.

Kelcie Banks was another example of amateur burnout as well. He was a great amateur right up until a year before the 1988 Olympics and a complete flop as a pro. I read he had over 500 amateur fights.

Once again you have educated me Rich regarding Davey Lee Armstrong, a boxer that I can’t recognise, he probably just wasn’t known in the UK and I was too young to remember the superb 76 Olympic team box. As always, great footage. I just wonder was that Bill Miller standing behind Armstrong when he was being interviewed? He was wearing a baseball cap which he did often. I know he did train Detroit fighters at the very early days at the kronk gym. Maybe a documentary on him would be great one day Rich, I know it’s probably difficult to get much information on him but he was a great patient trainer from the old school days and was by far James Toney best trainer, to me he made James Toney into a fantastic boxer. As for Armstrong, in was nice to know he never carried on boxing to the point of loosing constantly and that he made a career outside of boxing, such a shame he ended up with the boxing dementia though. A great boxer and one of the best amateurs of the seventies. Thanks Rich.🥊

Thanks, Brett. I'll have to look more into Miller. I know he was with the Kronk and as you said Toney was at his best with him in the corner.

Good job on the documentary of Davey Lee Armstrong. Had he fought on at his best, he would have been school by Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker, Hector "Macho" Camacho, Livingstone Bramble and Greg Haugen. Also, he would have been battered by Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini in their amateur rematch, Julio Cesar Chavez, Edwin Rosario, Jose Luis Ramirez and Vinny Pazienza just to name several even though Armstrong was talented at his best. Anyways, keep it up Rich.

@@RichtheFightHistorian You're welcome and I strongly agreed that Armstrong would be second tier at best as he wouldn't wipe the floor with those big name lightweights in his time from those they either fought or coming up in the future. Thank you for your opinion. Keep it up.
