This is quite a long-winded post but it should answer a majority of questions for those that are interested: Have I seen you playing Mordhau? • Unfortunately you most likely have not. The last time I played Mordhau was sometime around June of 2019. I don’t talk to people in-game (chat is disabled) and I try to keep all my online accounts private. I don’t accept friend requests from people I haven’t met or do not know. I also do not go by the name Trix in any game these days, you’ve most likely seen other people using this name or are pretending to be me. The person people most often confuse me with is the official Mordhau moderator Trix, but he is not me and isn’t tied to my KZbin brand at all. Fantastic guy, I’m good friends with him. Make sure to tell him he’s not the real Trix, he loves receiving those messages. Where have I been? • Just chilling for the most part, nothing too exciting to be honest. I lost interest in Mordhau a few months after it was released, around June 2019. The game never really improved from the alpha and I had already put in around a thousand hours, so naturally burnout was inevitable. I was also putting in a lot of hours into content creation and sort of pushed myself into a corner by raising the bar of quality with each upload. On its own this isn’t a bad thing, I think having that drive to improve your own skill set in any profession is incredibly important. What I mean is that while the official Mordhau trailer, my tutorials, and patch videos were high quality productions, and I am quite proud of them, I forgot that a lot of people just enjoy watching me play the game and I never really put time aside to do just that. If I did upload gameplay I always felt like it fell flat compared to these other projects despite it being received well. At times the simple gameplay videos would do much better than the patch videos or guides, that I put a lot of hours into, and it killed a lot of my motivation seeing those metrics. But ultimately that leads me into another reason why I left, I was treating a creative outlet as a job. I was judging the quality and overall value of the video based on KZbin metrics rather than just making a video because I wanted to. In hindsight it’s all quite obvious since my channel took off because I was doing what I wanted when I wanted. But when Mordhau released that focus shifted. Why wouldn’t you try and capitalise on a game’s release to grow your audience further? Will you come back to Mordhau? • I have no plans to make Mordhau content for the foreseeable future. These last few Mordhau videos I am uploading are old projects that were meant to come out at the beginning of 2020 but I never got around to finishing them due to lack of motivation. This lack of motivation was mainly driven by my disappointment with Mordhau, but I was also dealing with a lot of personal stuff at the time. The only thing that will bring me back to Mordhau is if the game gets a huge overhaul that addresses a lot of my concerns regarding core game design issues. I won’t go into detail here but some of my problems with Mordhau are definitely a sentiment shared amongst the community. This isn’t a dig at Triternion despite some disagreements I have with the way they conduct their business. I like to think I’m still on good terms, and friends, with the team. From my experience working with them they seem like great people individually, and they usually mean well, but the team just seems mismanaged or they don’t have their priorities straight. What are your current plans for KZbin then? • I’ll most likely stick to uploading what I enjoy rather than try and force myself to play a game that I’ve grown to despise. I don’t want to lock myself into just one game so I’ll branch out to whatever games I find myself jamming. Current games that I’m interested in are: Chivalry 2, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord (when they release a big update and multiplayer mod tools), Halo Infinite, the new Battlefield game (assuming it’s any good), and Darktide. Where did your Discord and Twitter go? • I didn’t really use my social media handles so I went ahead and deleted them. Apologies to those that prefer those platforms to keep up with creators, but I didn’t utilise them efficiently and I dislike social media in general. I did not put in time to improve those skills and I have no plans to do so either. At the moment I’d rather just upload a video and leave it at that, in the future my perspective may change.
