Gorgeous, you have some beautiful roses there. Penelope Lively is wonderful I love the fragrance and look how many buds you have, so lovely ! We bought Roald Dahl last year for my Mum in Law he's in a large pot and he's quite magnificent this year so she's very happy! I don't have Silas Marner but I think that's a great rose too and has a lovely old rose/fruity perfume. Enjoy your new roses they're lovely.

Wow I honestly think you have made some great acquisitions there. I’m jealous you get fragrance from Roald Dahl. Silas Marner in my humble is a GREAT rose. Only a year old In my mums garden it has not been without flower at all since it first flowered. And even now it’s putting many roses first flush from my garden to shame! So don’t be too disappointed just yet. I’m glad you see some Gabriel oak in there aswell in PL. The colour may fade a little to a softer lighter pink over time so we will see. btw roald dahl needs full sun to get fragrant, but it's nothing to write home about imho, I wouldn't bother. Reminds me of Lady of Shalott scent, which isn't great either.

Yes roald Dahl and lady shallot does have a mild old rosé fragrance and nothing worth mentioning. I think we should all agree that Jay Jay should make a video showing us his handsome face( I may have caught a glimpse whilst he was giving us a tour inside his house through an reflection on the mirror 😂

Well, you struck it lucky in the Penelope Lively lottery - not everyone has opened the box to find such a good number of blooms! I am very impressed by Gabriel Oak which I find robust and good for flowering as well as fragrance, so hopefully, if it is related to PL, PL will have a similar habit. (I haven't read any of PL's books either!) I bought Silas Marner as a bare root last autumn - mainly on Gardener Ben's recommendation - I have not yet seen why it was so highly praised by him, but the summer is still young - and it is only it's first year. I actually like the darker yellow of Roald Dahl as you showed it, although it will certainly fade to a paler yellow. Anyway, I think with two flowering shrubs out of three you have done well! Have you planted them yet?

Wow nik Silas Marner has been fantastic in my mums garden I’m really surprised with your experience. Both mill on the floss and Silas Marner bought from his recommendations and both of them absolutely flying. Is yours potted or on the ground ?

Yea I agree with Jay Jay, my Silas marner is a fantastic rose also with lovely sweet fragrance. Of course we all look after our roses differently so outcome can never be the same
