The clinching did more for Benavidez than it did for Plant tbh. It allowed him to get away with lots of holding, shoving, and elbows. No shame in it, because constant clinching is dirty in its own way, so fight fire with fire. At one point Benavidez was holding onto Plants arm and wailing on him with the other lol. That was savage. I know benavides had predicted a knock out and mentioned that he was going to hurt plant Alot worse than canelo did but the difference was canelo did stop plant and it didn't go through out the 12 rounds Ending in a unanimous decision. It would be great to see benavides and canelo go at it. Like it or not canelo is a great fighter that's getting constant criticism but he's earned his way. Styles make fights and Plant’s style is a tougher matchup for Canelo than Benavidez’s. And this was easily Benavidez’s best performance to date, yet it proved he stand no chance vs Canelo. Sorry. Benavides impressed me. I knew he would win but I was worried he would get frustrated but he showed patience and put in work in the second half. Only complaint is that he didn’t really showcase his 5 or 6 punch combo and I believed he coulda finished the fight with said combos in the 8th and 10th round. Overall a good win and proof he has a big stamina tank.
