Lyrics
Sometimes you get so lonely
Sometimes you get nowhere
I've lived all over the world
I've left every place
Please be mine
Share my life
Stay with me
Be my wife
Sometimes you get so lonely
Sometimes you get nowhere
I've lived all over the world
I've left every place
Please be mine
Share my life
Stay with me
Be my wife
Sometimes you get so lonely
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

David Bowie was brilliant, but he was a consolidator and a populariser, not an innovator, and he’d be the first to admit it. He was never ahead of his time, merely six months behind the vanguard. The debt he owes to German music on Low/Heroes is massive. There’s nothing wrong with that; he can still be really good and a copier, which is what he was.

I love this video! So simple and Bowie used his mime training to great effect with all the different facial expressions. He was acting the song is the best way to describe. It was about isolation and desolation and his sad clown affectations were perfect. The ending where he makes the ending glance straight into the camera was so Bowie. He showed just how great an actor he could be while performing. The dude was talented at all areas of expressions, singing, and performing the role of his song. This period is what Lady Gaga copies when she performs. She should give Bowie royalties for all the the times she copies him. This was also during the time before he got his teeth capped. Funny how the crooked teeth somehow made him look the part a lot better.

To me, this song brilliantly encapsulates the emotion of overwhelming loneliness and longing to break free, yet somehow still confined within the shackles of one's own imaginary grievances and anxiety. This sentiment is further exemplified by the initial aggressive piano playing at the start, as though the pianist is frantically banging on the musical keys, with the lingering thought of despair overbearing within the mind, as well as the overwhelming desire to be free of these emotions.

I really love the way this song can be sarcastic and painful, figurative and literal. He suffers that, spends a "low" period and when he resurfaces, it is with a pocket knife that rips the chest of those who were directed... philosophizing passionately here, just

my 10 year old daughter and I were watching a 2002 Bowie concert, she remarked "He looks so happy." I think he did, look so happy when he was healthier and clean, in a healthy relationship. I look at this an older videos, he does not look happy.

This popped up in my feed out of nowhere, have not listened to DB in a while; he's definitely not forgotten, it's just tough missing him whenever I watch one of his videos. Could not resist letting it play though and savoring DB at his anorexic-looking best. I think it's the lipstick, eye shadow and cheek blush which enhanced, what was in reality, a difficult time for him. He poured his feelings into these lyrics quite succinctly. Anyone who's been through a marriage on the rocks knows firsthand what he's saying. That plus trying to get clean, very intense indeed!

This is an outstanding performance - I wasn't a fan of Bowie until I listened to this album and then saw this video. It is inscrutable! I think there is a gorgeous mix of real tensions at work - set against artistic experience (esp cabaret) and most significant, true artistic intention. Raw and captivating!

I just love this guy (in a straight way!). He went to school near where I used to live. Album cover photo'd near a pub I drank in. He became an alcoholic and cocaine user. Maybe he is expressing the loneliness of that in this vid. When he was diagnosed with liver cancer he deffo expressed that horror and feeling of isolation in them last vids he did.

I really agree with you about Bowie's last vids. Almost too powerful. In this video he looks like he's just come off a two month bender and is paying the price. Ironically that suits the song. He seems to have found a lot of happiness in his later years, and I'm glad, because his music helped to shape my world when I was a teenager. Cheers!
