"Outside" is his masterpiece, especially when taken in context along with the "Leon" sessions (to-date unreleased). It's a "crime" that it isn't more recognized. At the end of his life, David apparently expressed to Tony Visconti that he wanted to return to the Outside story and complete the trilogy he was unable to do in the '90s. Unfortunately, it wasn't in the cards for him (or us), but the LP and its unofficial companion "Leon" remain and inspire (at least, they have been inspiring THIS artist for years and years)...

Imagine also if Bowie had lived, and had made the album about viruses from the planned Outside Trilogy, released let's say in 2019 or early 2020, and then the COVID Pandemic hits! Always ahead of his time❤

@@richardd9938 Well, he did record the “Omikron” (sic) soundtrack in ‘99! Yes, he was planning that, wasn’t he, and then “3. Afrikaans”… The themes would likely have changed had he done a sequel at the end of his life I believe, though.

It’s still hard to wrap my head around the fact that one of my oldest and dearest friends, Ron Athey unintentionally served as a major catalyst for Bowie creating this project. Wild. Sad we never got the trilogy, I know David was still talking to Eno about that even towards the end of his life.

Since there is no camera pointing towards them I cant tell if they were struck by your way of 'hybrid thinking' thus causing silence? Maybe they were pondering of 'Wow! Different angle of random logic..I got to right that down'! Haha! Meanwhile he moves on! Bravo David! Soo lovely to hear you again! Thank you for this interview and posting it!! Maybe it's just me but despite being a worldwide popular super star, he lacks of ego and pretentiousness makes me like him more. He seems very humble and down to earth. Or maybe he's just acting as the cameras on. Idk. Because I am newly interested in him even though i have heard of his name million times from my favorite musicians or my friends. That was just my observation.

zowie he did so amazing interviews and he would give back exactly what the interviewer gave him. If they were down to Earth you’d get a down to Earth David, if they asked intelligent questions you would get intelligent and philosophical answers, sometimes his humour would shine through, others he would be hilariously funny, but in the early days if they asked stupid or rude questions they’d get the Bowie stare while he was deciding whether to bring the shutters down, get defensive or go completely random on them . As he matured and grew more comfortable in his own skin he would answer the stupider questions with humour and lightheartedness, although you’d sometimes see the annoyance in his eyes. Here is one of my favourite interviews kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ-vmKSbe92ejZI I relate to it so much as I grew up in England in the 60s and 70s and he is so funny and down to earth in it, and he also tells a really interesting story of how he came to write Life on Mars , the single came out when I was 10.

They butchered this album which is the studio's fault. The song order of the released album is bizarre to me and I don't know whose fault, if it is one, that is but, to me, A Small Plot Of Land does not belong towards the start of the album. In a way, this press conference, with its businessy formality by the studio at that start, is part of the whole surreal nature of 1. Outside.
