Here i am, 30 yrs later, reminiscing about growing up on LI.... watching Uncle Floyd on channel 12..... Great times. Great memories.

No one could've done it better.. amazing how simply changing a few words/lyrics can give a song more universal appeal..all the while leaving the melody the way it was meant to sound. So I give The resting soul/spur of The late great David Bowie my applause..

Floyd Where Prohibited. Watched Uncle Floyd in the 80's when I was in Jersey home from college for the summer. Saw him play live at a piano bar at some dive in Jersey. He is a very nice guy and gave all of us many laughs.

Floyd 'where' (was?) prohibited. He was prohibited?
@OverlandOne Жыл бұрын
@@stuartwray6175 No that was just a funny saying they made up. It was mocking the old "void where prohibited" phrase at the end of every TV offer. I think a viewer sent it in and it was hanging with the pictures on the wall sent by other viewers.

Listening to Uncle Floyd on WFDU and I discovered this gem. Didn't know it existed but so happy that David Bowie and John Lennon were also big fans of the Uncle Floyd Show when he was U68.. Uncle Floyd's Garage Sale Music is on every Sunday from 9am - 12 noon on WFDU 89.1 FM.

I've heard the story directly from the cast how they met David Bowie at a bar in the city and that was when he said that he and John Lennon would watch the Uncle Floyd show together and that they were both big fans of the show.

Couldn't help but tear up and sigh hearing this song and seeing so many more pix I hadn't seen. Still hard to believe he's gone. Am so glad you shared this.

O, the memories. Came here feeling low and down, knowing that a dose of Uncle Floyd and David Bowie would make me feel better. I remember watching it nightly on UHF 68, and even though we were a bunch of 20-something year olds at the time, formed a fan club, submitted pictures, and our birthdays hoping to have them aknowledged. Never so proud as when one of our fan club pictures was featured for the day, and the day my birthday was announced. Seeing John Bongiovanni perform before he called himself Bon Jovi, and Blotto, and Doug & the Slugs, and so many more. First thing I did with my first car was slap a "I don't avoid - I watch Uncle Floyd " bumper sticker on it. And, I still have my 45 of "I'm my own Grampa". Snap it pal to the end!

My mother recently passed away, because of cancer. Never in my life, have I felt such agonising pain and sorrow. However I tried to channel that pain and made a cover, of one of my favorite songs, namely Bowie’s masterpiece Slip Away. Maybe you would like to hear it - @

Man, I got Heathen when it came out, and somehow never put this together. Heathen is legit one of his best albums too. One more reason to love David Bowie, he's a fan of Uncle Floyd too.

Needed more Oogie and Floyd. In fact, only Oogie and Floyd. Since it was a song about them. Bowie used to watch them whenever he was in NY and NJ on tour back in the day. Good video otherwise and thanks for uploading it.

They were the catalyst. It's not specifically about them but the passage of time, the passing of friends, dashed hopes/failed ambitions for some, fulfillment for others. Bowie was also remembering Lennon, who loved (and introduced Bowie to) the show. They would often watch it together.
