Bowie's voice during this performance is showing the strain of his drug addiction and general harm to self....that said, you absolutely need to listen to the studio version - Bowie's voice is fantastic -

David Bowie is the BEST ever! I've never cared for this particular performance, but the song is usually in the stratosphere.

A young David Sanborn on sax. He went on to play with just about everyone and had/has a huge solo career.

Bowie had Luther Vandross's band as support for the Philly portion of his Diamond Dogs tour; I think the switchover was gradual, with Bowie and his band coming onstage in ones and twos. The TV programme Cracked Actor showed Bowie showing Luther Vandross and the other singers how one of the songs should go. His hair is dyed, by the way. His normal colour was a kind of dark blonde (again, I think). I enjoyed this one.

David Bowie (Bo ee, like the bow tie) remade himself several times in his career. His Ziggy Stardust years were pretty out there. I believe you did "Space Oddity" from that time period. Lol

Bowie was brilliant. All the 70s rockers had every color of the rainbow playing with them.. I remember running out and buying the album.

Sorry I missed the live chat on this one! I remember singing along on Space Oddity on the anniversary of his death. I don't know what it was about him that affected me when the news flashed that he had passed on. He's surely missed.

This is my absolutely favorite Bowie song but I agree with some of the other comments, listen to the studio cut it's amazing.. It's still hard to believe he's gone. Miss you David.

He also did it with a cold and it was all live, not mimed and respect for that. Did you try him doing Fame on Soul Train, or Let's Dance?

Dear Mr. Smith, I was watching an SRV video and you were talking about reading music. I am a musician, and play a few instruments. I also know how to read music. Learn to read music when you feel you need to. Music is about expression and entertainment, not dots on a page. When and if you're feeling inhabited by not reading music, there's enough of us that can help.

Visually this is a great video but sadly the sound is terrible on this one - a fantastic song from one of my favourite albums of all time let alone one of my favourite David Bowie ones
