I listened to this almost everyday in 1977 at 14 while taking a shower on my 8 track until my Mom knocked on bathroom door telling me to turn it down!!! Now listening to it in 2019 at 56 in shower from my smart phone to a Bluetooth speaker and my 22 year old daughter knocks on door asking me turn it down....sheesh.....parallel reality!!

She lived from 2007 to 2023, she was old and her kidney was failing, in the car on the way to the vet to put her down we played her song one last time. I will never forget how sad i was to put her down, I loved her very much. I listen to this song all of the time now because it reminds me of how much I loved my dog. This is one of my favorite songs.

Last week me and some others went to his memorial service, and one of the songs they played was this, whilst showing a slideshow of some of his pictures. This is already a very nostalgic song for me since I grew up listening to David Bowie in my dad's car, but now I can't hear this song without thinking of him, and it's one hell of a beautiful song to remember someone by. Olivia Mae That's all good, there is hope yet! I have a 12 year old son & he loves all the old Bowie stuff. Let me tell you as someone who was around at the time that Bowie it's the real deal. Probably 98% of credible artists over the past 30 years would cite him as an influence. Btw & purely coincidental, I have just introduced Lewis (my son) to a band called "Suede" which he loves. They were around in the late 80's & although pretty big in the UK, never really got to where they should have been. Try "Animal Nitrate" by them - very Bowie'esque! Meant to also say if you can get on the BBC website & download their "i-player" there is a shit load on BBC 4 about Bowie's life & work.

Abhishek Sth I think the lyric is leather messiah, one of David Bowie’s roadies was asked to dictate the albums lyrics to a secretary at Gems offices in Regent street in 1972, he said he always heard it as like a leper messiah but he later realised that the lyric sheet words were like a leather messiah, which makes more sense. Also in Rock n roll suicide he recited it as wall to wall is calling, but on quick handwritten lyrics by David Bowie , David wrote “water-wall’s calling” (I’ve seen a photo of the handwritten lyrics, google Rock n roll suicide lyrics and it should come up) anyway now every time I listen to many different versions I can so clearly hear that he is singing water wall now.kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYnVemqOhN6tZppl6:46 16 minutes 46, but the Bowie part starts at 13:16

@pup100810 жыл бұрын
Certainly as someone who lived through all three decades in the UK & was a teen in the latter two, the 70's was a the best time for music but the 80's was a good time to be alive generally - The UK was a very prospourous country back then & everyone had money & was having a great time. Mind you, when you are 17, good looking, & know the people it's good to know ANY time is a good time to be alive! The 60's had some amazing sounds but the UK was still suffering from the financial & physical effects of WW2 & was still quite a grey & depressing place. The 80's had some decent music although thinking about it, a lot of the stuff I listened to came from overseas - bands like the amazing "Rush" & "Talking Heads." Probably one of our greatest song writers came out of this era - Mr. Paul Weller. His band "The Jam" were rightly HUGE for a time.

It was in 1971 that I spent the day with David Bowie and my brother upon David's arrival in the U.S. at Dulles Airport in Virginia. Bowie's first trip to the U.S. was a three week promotional tour for Mercury Records. Bowie had yet to break big here in the States. In an article many years later in VMagazine, David wrote about his heroes and one of them was the Legendary Stardust Cowboy...and if it wasn't for my brother, David would not have become Ziggy Stardust. In David's own words: "In early 1971, just before my departure from the States back to the U.K., Mercury executive Ron Oberman took me aside and furtively pressed a couple of singles into my hand. "Play these," he said. "You will never be the same again." Back home, I choked on "Paralyzed," gasped in awe at "Down in the Wrecking Yard," and fell all about the floor at "I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship." It was the laugh of love. I could not believe that such a talent had gone virtually unrecognized. If ever there was an equivalent to outsider art, this was it. The integrity, honesty, and innocent, brutal focus entranced me. I became a lifelong fan, and Ziggy got a surname."
